Private Shore Excursion from Le Verdon to Bordeaux City
Embark on a full-day private shore excursion from Le Verdon Cruise Port to discover Bordeaux, a UNESCO-listed “City of Art and History” renowned for its elegant 18th-century architecture and vibrant wine culture.
Pick up at your cruise ship in Le Verdon
Your English-speaking driver/guide will meet you directly at your ship in Le Verdon (other languages available on request). After presenting the itinerary and answering any questions, board your comfortable air-conditioned vehicle for the drive to Bordeaux. This tour includes walking, so comfortable shoes are recommended.
Welcome to Bordeaux – a transformed city
On arrival, begin exploring one of France’s most fascinating cities, often nicknamed the “Sleeping Beauty.” Learn how Bordeaux has been transformed in recent decades, leading to its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and discover how its history, architecture, and wine trade are closely intertwined.
Start at Place des Quinconces
Your first stop is Place des Quinconces, one of the largest city squares in Europe and a key landmark of Bordeaux. Once the site of Château Trompette, today it features the Monument to the Girondins, decorative fountains, and statues of famous local thinkers such as Montesquieu and Montaigne, as well as impressive views toward the river.
Discover the Golden Triangle
Continue into the heart of the city, known as the “Golden Triangle,” defined by elegant boulevards and refined architecture. See Place de la Comédie, framed by the Grand Hôtel de Bordeaux and the Grand Théâtre, an 18th-century neo-classical masterpiece by architect Victor Louis. Your guide will explain how this district became a powerful symbol of Bordeaux’s prosperity.
Riverfront and Bordeaux’s famous landmarks
Walk along the Garonne riverfront to reach Place de la Bourse and its iconic water mirror, then continue to other key sights such as the Cathedral of Saint-André, Pey-Berland Square and Tower, and the lively Rue Sainte-Catherine, one of Europe’s longest pedestrian shopping streets. Throughout the walk, your guide will share stories that bring Bordeaux’s past and present to life.
Free time for lunch and wine tasting
After your guided visit, enjoy free time for lunch (at own expense) and personal exploration. You can wander medieval backstreets, browse boutiques, or stop at a wine bar to taste wines from appellations such as Saint-Émilion, Médoc, Pessac-Léognan, or Sauternes. Your guide will be happy to recommend wine bars and restaurants serving classic south-western French cuisine.
Return to Le Verdon Cruise Port
In the afternoon, reunite with your driver/guide and relax on the return journey to Le Verdon. You will be dropped off at your cruise ship in time for departure, bringing your day in Bordeaux to a comfortable close.

Always check the weather before you follow one of our shore excursions. By doing so, adapt your clothing to the local weather conditions. On one of our shore excursions we will not require you to bring your passport but it is always better to have some type of ID just in case. We strongly recommend that you bring with you a photocopy of any ID. Good walking shoes are always recommended in France as you never know on what type of grounds you might be walking.
