EXPERIENCE THE TRADITION, of France’s famed cuisine
French cuisine is renowned the world over and has inspired many Western cuisines, so much so that in 2010 French gastronomy was added by UNESCO to its lists of the world’s “intangible cultural heritage”. Of course, cheese and wine are a major part of any French culinary experience, but our tours delve much deeper into the traditions and stories behind some of the most popular and famed French dishes.
Choose between gourmet walking tours, market tours and cooking classes in various regions of France and spend a half day or full day enjoying the sights, scents, and flavors of France. For those looking to extend the experience, we offer 7 day tours from Bordeaux to San Sebastian, which includes a tour of Grand Crus wineries, private tastings and sampling the delicious cuisine found along the way.
Since 2005, Ophorus has been offering delicious culinary food & wine tours in France. From Bordeaux wines to Burgundy, the Loire valley to Alsace, Paris and not to forget Lyon, all our food & wine tours will take you to some of the most famous wineries or have you follow the best gourmet food tours.
We have carefully selected famous venues but also some of the more traditional family owned shops and wineries so that you may experience an authentic encounter with local producers, winemakers who will reveal their passion for wines.
Following a gourmet food and wine tour with Ophorus means that you will travel in small groups only, off the beaten track, either on a shared tour or through a private tour. All our tours are conducted by professional English speaking guides (other languages are on request) and they take place either on a walking tour or on board recent, comfortable and fully equipped vehicles.
Most of guides are either professionals of the wine industry such as sommeliers, wine makers or hold at minimum the WSET level 2 in wines & spirits or genuine locals that will take you to the most interesting places. As such, a typical day tour of a french wine region conducted by a local guide will include Grand cru winery visits, commented wine tastings of local famous wines.
This unique particularity means that you will have the opportunity to better understand some of the most essential information that is true to all the French food & wine regions such as: what is a terroir? How is wine made? What is the vinification process? What is the difference between traditional or modern wine making facilities and all the technical implications?
We at Ophorus strive to have you discover the huge diversity of produce and wines that are made here through one of our unique gourmet food or wine tour. More than just a ‘tour’ let us introduce you to a 2000-year-old experience through the eyes and experience of those that have made this their passion. We also organize hands on cooking classes in most regions of France.
