A Dordogne package is the most complete and comfortable way to experience one of France's most extraordinary regions. Based in Sarlat-la-Canéda — one of the finest medieval towns in the country and the culinary capital of the Périgord Noir — every day of your stay is planned in advance, with expert local guides, comfortable transport and carefully selected accommodation all arranged for you.

All Dordogne packages are based in Sarlat, in the heart of the Périgord Noir. Guests arrive independently and settle into their hotel; guided day trips depart each morning from a central Sarlat meeting point. The Dordogne is most easily reached by train to Souillac or Périgueux, or by TGV to Libourne or Bordeaux followed by a connecting transfer.

Packages are available in two formats: fully private, reserved exclusively for your party with hotel pick-up included and complete flexibility; and small group (maximum 8 guests), combining well-organised multi-day touring with an intimate atmosphere and a more accessible price point. Both formats are available with 3-star, 4-star and 5-star hotel options in central Sarlat.

Dordogne package options

  • 5-day Dordogne package (private or small group): The essential Dordogne experience — four nights in central Sarlat, with a gourmet market walking tour of the town, a half-day villages and Gabarre boat ride along the Dordogne Valley, a full day of Paleolithic cave art in the Vézère Valley (including Lascaux IV and Rouffignac), and a full day to Rocamadour and the Gouffre de Padirac. Available with 3-star, 4-star or 5-star hotel accommodation.

  • Bordeaux & Dordogne (8 days, private or small group): An extended multi-region package combining Bordeaux wine touring — Saint-Émilion, the Médoc, Pomerol — with a transfer to Sarlat and three full days of Dordogne exploration. Accommodation included in both Bordeaux and Sarlat. The ideal itinerary for guests who want to combine southwest France's two flagship experiences in a single, well-organised trip.

Private or small group?

  • Private packages: The entire itinerary is reserved exclusively for your party — hotel pick-up included, no shared groups at any stage. Full flexibility on timing, hotel category and pace. Ideal for couples, families, guests celebrating a special occasion and those who prefer their day adapted entirely to their rhythm.

  • Small group packages (max 8 guests): Carefully organised shared departures with all logistics handled end-to-end. Tours depart from Place Pasteur in central Sarlat. Ideal for solo travellers and guests who enjoy sharing an experience with like-minded visitors in a relaxed, intimate group setting.

What every Dordogne package includes

  • Accommodation: Centrally located hotel in Sarlat (3-star, 4-star or 5-star options); full hotel details on each package page.

  • Breakfast daily: Included from day 2 onwards.

  • Expert local guiding: English-speaking certified driver-guides throughout, with specialist knowledge of Dordogne prehistory, medieval history and regional gastronomy.

  • Comfortable transport: Premium air-conditioned Mercedes minivan for all guided day trips.

  • Entrance fees: Lascaux IV, Rouffignac Cave and National Prehistory Museum included; full inclusion details on each package page.

  • Gourmet market tour: A guided morning walk through Sarlat's exceptional market with food tastings included.

When to visit the Dordogne

The Dordogne is most beautiful from April to October, with the Dordogne Valley at its greenest and most photogenic in late spring and early summer. July and August are the peak visitor months, particularly at Lascaux IV and Rocamadour — advance booking is strongly recommended for summer stays.

September and October offer pleasant temperatures, smaller crowds and the beginning of truffle and walnut season, making autumn one of the most rewarding times for food-focused guests. Packages run year-round; winter visits are quieter and offer a more intimate experience of Sarlat's medieval streets.
