Hanging dramatically above the sea, the medieval village of Eze has retained all its charm through the centuries. From the ruins of its fortress to its steep, cobbled lanes and stone houses, the village feels like a real-life eagle’s nest overlooking the Mediterranean. Today, Eze attracts a multitude of artisans and artists whose workshops, often set in former barns or sheepfolds, contribute to the village’s unique and peaceful atmosphere.
Celebrated for its calm and outstanding views, Eze has also inspired many writers, including Nietzsche, who is said to have worked on “Thus Spoke Zarathustra” here. After exploring the village, continue to a nearby perfume factory. The famous perfume house Fragonard was established in 1926 by Eugène Fuchs, who named his company after an 18th‑century French painter in homage to the perfume‑making town of Grasse. Your Villefranche shore excursion then continues toward Monaco, with beautiful coastal views along the way. On arrival, stroll through the narrow streets of the Old Town perched on “Le Rocher” (the Rock).
