Program & Itinerary
Cherbourg Shore Excursion to the Iconic D-Day Sites
Immerse yourself in World War II history on a powerful full-day shore excursion from Cherbourg Cruise Port to some of Normandy’s most important D-Day landmarks. This private tour is ideal for travelers who want to better understand the Allied landings and pay tribute to the soldiers who fought for the liberation of Western Europe.
Relive the events of D-Day
On 6 June 1944, the Normandy coastline became the stage for one of the most decisive military operations in history. Throughout the day, your guide will bring these events to life, explaining how the landings were planned, the challenges the Allies faced, and how the beachheads were finally secured despite heavy losses. With on-site commentary, original photos, and maps, you’ll gain a clear picture of what happened where you stand.
Omaha Beach – at the heart of the battle
Your itinerary typically includes a stop at Omaha Beach, where American forces endured some of the fiercest fighting on D-Day. Walking along the sand and looking up at the bluffs, you will better grasp the scale of the obstacles, from strong currents and obstacles on the beach to well‑defended positions overlooking the shore. Your guide will point out key sectors and tell soldiers’ stories that add a human dimension to the landscape.
Pointe du Hoc and current access conditions
When conditions allow, your tour may also feature Pointe du Hoc, the dramatic cliff‑top stronghold between Utah and Omaha Beaches where U.S. Rangers carried out a daring assault to neutralize German artillery threatening the invasion fleet. Among bomb craters and remnants of bunkers, you can see how difficult it was to scale the cliffs and secure the position.
Important notice: Due to ongoing restoration and infrastructure works at Pointe du Hoc in 2026–2027, parts of the site, parking, or the visitor center may be closed or have limited access. If access is too restricted on the day of your visit, your guide will adapt the itinerary and replace Pointe du Hoc with another historically significant location, ensuring you still gain a complete understanding of the landings.
Normandy American Cemetery – a place of reflection
Your day often includes time at the Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville‑sur‑Mer, overlooking Omaha Beach. Here, more than 9,000 American servicemen are laid to rest. Walking between the rows of white crosses and Stars of David, and visiting the memorials and, when possible, the Visitor Center, offers a moving opportunity to reflect on the human cost of the battle and the lasting legacy of D‑Day.
Seamless travel with expert guidance
From pickup at Cherbourg Cruise Port to your timely return to the ship, your certified English‑speaking driver‑guide will handle logistics and scheduling so you can focus on the experience. Traveling in a comfortable, premium minivan in a small private group, you benefit from clear explanations, flexible pacing, and time to ask questions at each stop. You return to your ship with a deeper, more personal understanding of Normandy’s pivotal role in World War II.

Know before you book
Due to ongoing renovation works, Pointe du Hoc may not be accessible during part of 2026 & 2027. In the event of site closure, the visit will be replaced with another major D-Day location, such as Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, Angoville or Carentan.
These alternative sites offer a similar historical significance. Your guide will ensure you enjoy a meaningful and informative experience, whichever site is available on the day of your tour.
If you want to share your tour with others, you can put it on Cruise Critic. Most of the time this gives good results. You must do this yourself as we are not accepted on their site as a professional business. We accept split payment transactions by credit card.
