Program & Itinerary
Private Sightseeing Excursion through the Alsace region
This highly recommended full day tour has been carefully designed for travelers that wish to get the most out of their stay here in Alsace. The Gems of Alsace tour combines what we believe are the most essential visits that one must make while in the region. It includes the visits of monuments, small traditional villages and historical landmarks and a ride along the famous Alsace Wine Road.
In the morning we will come and pick you up at your centrally located accommodation in Colmar. Meet your English speaking driver/guide who will go over the program and itinerary of the day with you. Then board your air conditioned vehicle and depart for a full day tour that includes the highlights of the Alsace region.
Visit the village of Eguisheim
Your day trip from Colmar will start with the visit of the small town of Eguisheim. The village is a perfect starting point for a full day tour as it is a traditional Alsatian village. Surrounded by vineyards, the narrow and concentric streets highlight the architectural merits of its half-timbered houses, lovingly decorated with flowers. After a walk in the village your tour then continues on to the beautiful town of Riquewihr. Passing by the village of Turckheim, where you can admire plenty of traditional Alsace style houses, overflowing with flowers.
Then reach Riquewihr
Your tour then continues onto the beautiful town of Riquewihr. Surrounded by ramparts, the village has been very fortunate to survive war and destruction. Its tiny streets, fortified walls and old houses have preserved their 16C splendor and remained virtually intact, making for remarkable architectural harmony. Enjoy free time for personal discovery and lunch.
After Lunch Follow the Breathtaking Alsace ‘Wine Route’ and Visit a Mighty Castle
Located between the Rhine Valley and the Vosges mountain range, the 60 year old Alsace Wine Route winds across the slopes for more than 170 kms. The itinerary leads across rows of undulating, vine covered hills, and through beautiful villages with narrow streets and charming flower decked houses clustered around the local church steeple. The area is also dotted with medieval castles.
As you stop in one of these villages, experience a wine tasting session during which you will be introduced to the local wines. Alsace white wines are famous all over France. Alsace wines are Varietal wines, the most famous grapes include Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris or Sylvaner.
End the day with the visit of Haut Koenigsbourg Castle
Finally, reach Haut Koenigsbourg castle. Here, follow your guide for a tour of this mighty fortress that overlooks the valley. Built in 12th century, the Castle occupied a strategic position controlling the wine and wheat routes to the North and the salt route that came from the East.
Benefit from the undivided attention of your guide on this private tour.
