Program & Itinerary
Alsace Wine Route Exploration: Exclusive Half-Day Journey from Strasbourg
Embark on an exclusive half-day tour to uncover the treasures of the Alsace Wine Route, one of France's most esteemed wine regions. Celebrated for its exceptional white wines, Alsace is a viticultural paradise where a dry, sunny climate, diverse geology, rich soils, and optimal sun exposure combine to produce wines of remarkable aromatic complexity and purity of fruit.
Convenient Pickup in Strasbourg
Your experience begins in Strasbourg, where you’ll meet your English-speaking driver-guide at a designated pickup point. Upon booking, you’ll receive detailed information about your meeting location and time. After a brief presentation of the day’s itinerary, board your comfortable, air-conditioned minivan and set off towards the vineyards.
Journey Along the Renowned Alsace Wine Route
Head south from Strasbourg along the Alsace Wine Route, a scenic corridor of vineyards, villages, and castle-topped hillsides. As you drive between wine towns, your guide explains the history of Alsace wine, the influence of the Vosges Mountains, and the role of terroir in shaping the region’s distinctive styles.
This half-day excursion includes visits to two carefully selected wineries, where you’ll enjoy intimate, commented tastings and learn to recognize the key grape varieties and appellations of Alsace.
Discover Obernai: Historic Wine Town
Your first stop is Obernai, a picturesque town on the Wine Route known for its timber-framed houses, medieval ramparts, and long-standing wine tradition. Stroll its winding streets and see highlights such as the Saints-Pierre-et-Paul Church, the Belfry, the Six Bucket Well, and the Sainte-Odile Fountain.
As you explore, your guide shares how Obernai developed from its foundation in the 13th century into an important member of the Décapole, an alliance of imperial cities that sought greater autonomy and prosperity through trade and winegrowing.
Alsace’s Aromatic Wine Diversity
Alsace is especially renowned for its aromatic white wines, including Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Muscat, and Sylvaner, as well as Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir. Protected by the Vosges Mountains, the region benefits from one of France’s driest climates, allowing grapes to ripen slowly and fully, concentrating flavors and aromas.
At your winery visits, taste a selection of these varietal wines and learn about their typical profiles—citrus and mineral Riesling, spicy and floral Gewurztraminer, rich and textured Pinot Gris—and how they pair with regional dishes such as choucroute, tarte flambée, and Munster cheese.
Exclusive Tastings at Selected Wineries
During the tour, you will visit two family-owned or independent wineries along the Alsace Wine Route. In the cellars or tasting rooms, meet winemakers or knowledgeable staff who will explain their vineyard practices, winemaking choices, and the particularities of their terroirs.
Enjoy generous tastings of local white wines, and when available, sample late-harvest or Grand Cru cuvées that showcase the full potential of Alsace’s vineyards. This is an ideal moment to ask questions, compare styles, and purchase bottles to take home if you wish.
Return to Strasbourg
After your second tasting, relax on the drive back to Strasbourg, taking in the last views of vine-covered slopes and picturesque villages. You’ll return enriched by the landscapes, stories, and wines of the Alsace Wine Route.
This exclusive half-day tour blends historical depth, cultural richness, and enological excellence, making it a perfect excursion from Strasbourg for wine lovers and curious travelers alike.

Know before you book
What to know before your tour?
Enjoying wine is a wonderful part of discovering France’s culture and heritage. We encourage guests to savor each tasting responsibly and at their own pace. Please remember that wine contains alcohol, and moderation helps you fully appreciate the flavors, keep a clear head throughout the tour, and make the most of your experience.
In France, snacks are usually not provided during wine tastings to preserve the purity of the wine's flavor. We recommend having a good breakfast or lunch beforehand.

What happens if we do not find the meeting point for our Shared Alsace Wine Tour?
You have to be at the meeting point at least 10 minutes prior to tour departure. If you are having difficulties finding the meeting point you must call us on our office number +33 556 152 609 so that we may help you find the exact area. Please note that tours leave on time and if you are not there at the designated area and indicated time the driver/guide will leave. Please refer to our terms and conditions for more information. -
What type of vehicles are used during a day trip from Strasbourg?
Our company uses only Mercedes Tourer Viano 8 seater minivans that are recent, comfortable and fully equipped including individual A/C, shaded windows, large leg space and on board P/A system for commentaries by the guide. -
Who conducts these Alsace shared wine tours from Strasbourg?
We only employ accredited and licensed tour guides that are also the drivers for all tours that need visits to be conducted by certified guides. Good examples are: the visit of museums, guided walking tours in cities, visit of historical monuments and so on.
In some regions, where wine tours prevail (Bordeaux, Alsace) the tours are conducted by professional local guides, that are experts in Wines. The very large majority of our guides hold at minimum the WSET level 2 in wines. -
Can we choose which winery we will visit on a shared Alsace Villages Tour?
No, unfortunately a scheduled tour is already pre-programmed and the wineries have been (carefully) selected. If you would like to visit some specific wineries while you are staying in Strasbourg or Colmar then do not hesitate to book one of our Alsace Private Wine Tours. -
Are the Winery Tours private in Alsace?
During our scheduled/shared tours the visits at the wineries are not private and you may find yourself being grouped with others. Groups usually always remain in low numbers. If you are seeking a more exclusive Alsace Wine Tour then do not hesitate to book one of our private tours. We will organise a private visit just for you and your party.
Please note that on our shared Alsace Day Trips from Strasbourg, Ophorus tours are always conducted in English during the tours or at the wineries. Unlike other providers we refuse to mix languages. -
What type of wines are produced in the Alsace region of France?
Alsace wines are essentially white wines. Here, the main characteristic is that Alsace wines are varietal wines. The grape varieties that are allowed are Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir (the only red grape variety), Sylvaner and Muscat. Most wines produced are dry white wines but other wines include Sparkling wines, late harvest wines or sweet wines. Then there are Grands Crus Alsace wines that make up for just 4% of the total production. -
How many Alsace wines will I taste during this tour?
In Alsace, there are 7 different varietal wines, sparkling wines and sweet white wines. The range is therefore quite large and depending on the wineries visited you will wine taste anything from 4 to 7 or more wines per winery. Alsace winery visits are a treat for all white wine lovers!
