Discover the Crus of Beaujolais
The Crus of Beaujolais are a collection of ten esteemed appellations within the Beaujolais wine region, each boasting its own distinctive character and exceptional quality. These Crus are renowned for producing some of the most revered and sought-after wines in the area.
The ten Crus of Beaujolais are: Saint-Amour, Juliénas, Chénas, Moulin-à -Vent, Fleurie, Chiroubles, Morgon, Régnié, Brouilly, and Côte de Brouilly. Each Cru has its own unique terroir, influenced by variations in soil composition, elevation, and microclimates, resulting in wines with distinct personalities.
Saint-Amour, the northernmost Cru, captivates with its elegant and romantic wines. Juliénas, named after the nearby village, produces robust and structured wines known for their aging potential. Chénas offers wines that are powerful yet refined, while Moulin-à -Vent, often referred to as the "King of Beaujolais," produces wines with exceptional structure, complexity, and longevity.
Fleurie is celebrated for its floral and aromatic wines, while Chiroubles showcases wines with finesse and charm. Morgon, known for its full-bodied and expressive wines, exhibits flavors of ripe berries and rich earthiness. Régnié, the youngest of the Crus, produces vibrant and approachable wines with youthful exuberance.
Brouilly, the largest and most renowned Cru, crafts wines that are fruity, balanced, and highly enjoyable. Lastly, Côte de Brouilly, located on the slopes of an extinct volcano, produces wines with depth, minerality, and a unique volcanic touch.
Exploring the Crus of Beaujolais is a journey of discovery, where wine enthusiasts can delve into the nuances of terroir, taste the diverse expressions of the Gamay grape, and appreciate the artistry of skilled winemakers. From elegant and delicate to bold and powerful, the Crus of Beaujolais offer a captivating range of flavors, aromas, and textures.
