Pick up at the train station, hotel or accommodation in Bayeux

Today we will come and pick you up at the Bayeux train station, hotel or accommodation in Bayeux or vicinity.

Meet your English speaking local guide, Expert in WWII Battle of Normandy

Today, meet your English speaking guide who is an expert of Normandy, D-Day sites and World War II and who will go over the itinerary and program of this half day private tour with you. Then, board your spacious, comfortable, air conditioned Mercedes minivan and begin to make your way to Normandy landing beaches area.

Travel in a spacious Mercedes Minivan

Your private Bayeux Sightseeing Tour of the Normandy Beaches and sites will take place in one of our very spacious Mercedes Minivans. This vehicle can take up to 8 persons normally but on this occasion, the vehicle will only be for you. This allows you to choose the seat that you think best in terms of social distancing while still enjoying the information passed on by your guide.

All our vehicles are equipped with an on board P/A system that allows you to hear the commentary of your driver/guide no matter where you are seated. Also, there is free Wi-Fi access on all tour vehicles. Bottled water is also available in all our vehicles.

Reach the coastal Battlefield road

On this intimate tour from Bayeux, you will first reach the coastal battlefield area of Omaha Beach. Here, listen to your guide as you are taken back in time to hear the tale of one of the boldest and most successful large scale invasions in military history. Omaha was by far the toughest assignment in Overlord and was the most heavily defended of all the beaches; its bunkers, fighting positions, and obstacles were intended to repel any Allied landing.

Drive to Pointe du Hoc

After a short drive, you will be taken to the Pointe du Hoc site located between Utah & Omaha d-day landing beaches. Located in the American sector, follow a guided tour of Pointe du Hoc, a breathtaking cliff offering lunar landscapes, stunning bomb craters and a magnificent viewpoint over the English Channel. Given the toughness of the operation, the Pointe du Hoc was given to Rangers to land upon.

On this headland as part of the German defensive line ‘The Atlantic Wall’, German forces had put in place an artillery battery of 6 long range cannons which could target the 2 American landing beaches. These cannons were a huge threat to the landings and as such became a focal point of the amphibious assault by U.S. forces during the early morning hours of D-Day, June 6 1944.

Here, Lt. Col. James E. Rudder, commanding the 2nd Ranger Battalion, received the mission to land at 6:30 a.m., scale the 100 foot cliffs, and disable the German positions. Lt. Col. Max F. Schneider’s 5th Ranger Battalion would follow and reinforce them.

Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial

End the tour with a stop at the Normandy American Cemetery. Located in Colleville-sur-Mer, on the site of the temporary American St. Laurent Cemetery, established by the U.S. First Army on June 8, 1944 as the first American cemetery on European soil in World War II.

Here you will have some time to walk around and pay homage but also visit the Visitor Center that provides a fuller array of visitor services to put the D-Day landings in perspective as one of the greatest military achievements in history.

After the visit, return to Bayeux.

We also offer full day tours of the canadian sector among our large selection of Normandy landing beaches tours. Other important sites visited include Longues sur Mer but also Mont Saint Michel on a day trip from Bayeux.
