Perfectly tailored for those with limited time in the area, this private excursion serves as a comprehensive introduction to this pivotal period in history.
Traverse the Coastal Battlefields Road
Setting off from Bayeux, your private tour begins with a journey to the coastal battlefield area, starting at the legendary Omaha Beach. As your guide recounts the gripping tale of one of the most audacious and successful military invasions in history, you'll be transported back in time. Our expert guide, well-versed in the Normandy battle, will expertly narrate the events and locations where fierce fighting unfolded.
Uncover the Secrets of Pointe du Hoc
A short drive brings you to the hallowed grounds of Pointe du Hoc, strategically positioned between Utah and Omaha beaches. This site played a pivotal role during the D-Day landings, serving as a focal point for the daring amphibious assault launched by U.S. forces on June 6, 1944. Lieutenant Colonel James E. Rudder, leading the 2nd Ranger Battalion, heroically scaled the 100-foot cliffs to neutralize German positions, with Lieutenant Colonel Max F. Schneider's 5th Ranger Battalion providing crucial reinforcements.
Immerse Yourself in the Battle-Scarred Landscape
Upon arrival at Pointe du Hoc, your half-day tour takes you on a captivating walk along the cliffs, surrounded by the hauntingly beautiful lunar landscape scarred by battle. Traverse the grounds adorned with craters, testaments to the relentless bombardments that shaped this historic site. Let your imagination transport you to the intensity of the past as you witness the remnants left by the ferocious conflict.
Pay Tribute at the Normandy American Cemetery
Conclude your sightseeing tour with a poignant visit to the Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer. This sacred site stands on the location of the temporary American St. Laurent Cemetery, the first American cemetery on European soil established by the U.S. First Army on June 8, 1944.
Take a moment to pay homage and reflect, while the Visitor Center offers a comprehensive array of services, allowing you to gain a deeper understanding of the monumental significance of the D-Day landings as one of history's greatest military achievements. At the end of your visit, we'll return you to Bayeux, enriched by the profound experiences and knowledge gained throughout the day.
