Begin your journey into the heart of Alsace's wine culture by meeting us at the central and easily accessible Strasbourg Tourism Office, located at 17 Place de la Cathédrale. This prime spot, nestled near the majestic Cathedral, places you within a leisurely 10-minute walk from most city center hotels.

Timeliness is key, as our winery visits are exclusive and meticulously arranged just for our guests. We kindly ask you to arrive 10 minutes ahead of the scheduled departure to honor the precise timings of Alsace's wine tours. Remember, spontaneous winery visits aren't typical here, especially at the more renowned establishments.

Should you be delayed, please contact us immediately via SMS, phone, or email. We can accommodate a maximum waiting period of 10 minutes, but any delay beyond this may lead to a forfeiture of your reservation without a refund.

A Day of Discovery with Your English-Speaking Guide

Upon meeting, your friendly, English-speaking guide, recognizable by the Ophorus sign and badge, will brief you on the day's itinerary. Settle into our cozy, air-conditioned Mercedes minivan and prepare to be whisked away to the enchanting Alsace wine region.

Journey Along the Scenic Alsace Wine Route

Your day-long adventure unfolds along the stunning Alsace Wine Route, spanning 170 kilometers through the picturesque Vosges foothills. This route is famed for its scenic vineyards, quaint villages, and medieval charm. Explore three distinct wine-producing areas, each offering a unique taste of Alsace's rich wine heritage.

The tour starts in the Mittelbergheim/Barr region, renowned for its Grand Crus and an array of Alsace wines. Here, taste the region's finest, including Pinot Blanc, Sylvaner, Pinot Gris, and Riesling, amidst the backdrop of rolling vineyards.

Next, discover the heart of Alsace's wine culture in Dambach La Ville, home to the Grand Cru Frankstein. Enjoy a second tasting in a traditional "caveau," sampling Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and possibly the delightful "Crémant d'Alsace."

Savor the Essence of Alsace with More Wine Tastings

Post-lunch, we journey to the Ribeauvillé/Riquewihr area, surrounded by five Grand Crus. Here, you'll find legendary winegrowers like the Trimbach and Hugel families, adding depth to your tasting experience. The afternoon session includes exploring wine and food pairings, making stops at picturesque spots perfect for photography.

As the day concludes, we return to Strasbourg, leaving you enriched with the beauty, history, and exquisite flavors of Alsace. Book your tour now and join us for a full-day exploration of Alsace's winemaking legacy, guided by our experienced and knowledgeable local guide.

FAQ

  • What happens if we do not find the meeting point for our Shared Alsace Wine Tour?

You have to be at the meeting point at least 10 minutes prior to tour departure. If you are having difficulties finding the meeting point you must call us on our office number +33 556 152 609 so that we may help you find the exact area. Please note that tours leave on time and if you are not there at the designated area and indicated time the driver/guide will leave. Please refer to our terms and conditions for more information.
  • What type of vehicles are used during a day trip from Strasbourg?

Our company uses only Mercedes Vito Tourer 8 seater minivans that are recent, comfortable and fully equipped including individual A/C, shaded windows, large leg space and on board P/A system for commentaries by the guide.
  • Who conducts these Alsace shared wine tours from Strasbourg?

We only employ accredited and licensed tour guides that are also the drivers for all tours that need visits to be conducted by certified guides. Good examples are: the visit of museums, guided walking tours in cities, visit of historical monuments and so on.

In some regions, where wine tours prevail (Bordeaux, Alsace) the tours are conducted by professional local guides, that are experts in Wines. The very large majority of our guides hold at minimum the WSET level 2 in wines.
  • Can we choose which village we will visit on a shared Alsace Wine Tour?

No, unfortunately a scheduled tour is already pre-programmed and the wineries have been (carefully) selected. If you would like to visit some specific wineries while you are staying in Strasbourg or Colmar then do not hesitate to book one of our Alsace Private Wine Tours.
  • Are the Winery Tours private in Alsace?

During our scheduled/shared tours the visits at the wineries are not private and you may find yourself being grouped with others. Groups usually always remain in low numbers. If you are seeking a more exclusive Alsace Wine Tour then do not hesitate to book one of our private tours. We will organise a private visit just for you and your party.

Please note that on our shared Alsace Day Trips from Strasbourg, Ophorus tours are always conducted in English during the tours or at the wineries. Unlike other providers we refuse to mix languages.
  • What type of wines are produced in the Alsace region of France?

Alsace wines are essentially white wines. Here, the main characteristic is that Alsace wines are varietal wines. The grape varieties that are allowed are Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir (the only red grape variety), Sylvaner and Muscat. Most wines produced are dry white wines but other wines include Sparkling wines, late harvest wines or sweet wines. Then there are Grands Crus Alsace wines that make up for just 4% of the total production.
  • How many Alsace wines will I taste during this tour?

In Alsace, there are 7 different varietal wines, sparkling wines and sweet white wines. The range is therefore quite large and depending on the wineries visited you will wine taste anything from 4 to 7 or more wines per winery. Alsace winery visits are a treat for all white wine lovers!
  • Where will we have time for lunch during the Alsace full day wine tour?

During your shared Alsace wine tour from Strasbourg you will have the possibility to take lunch in a authentic village chosen by your guide. There will be several options, ask your guide for recommendations. Villages can include Riquewihr, Ribeauvillé, Kaysersberg and so on.
