Program & Itinerary
Black Forest & Baden-Baden: Full-Day Tour from Strasbourg
Set off from Strasbourg on a full-day Black Forest and Baden-Baden tour that combines spa-town elegance, panoramic viewpoints, a tranquil mountain lake, and picturesque wine villages. This day trip from France to Germany is the ideal way to discover the highlights of the Black Forest in just one day, with a knowledgeable English-speaking guide and comfortable minivan travel.
Convenient Morning Departure from Strasbourg
Your adventure begins at 9:00 am in front of the Strasbourg Tourism Office, located at 17 Place de la Cathédrale in the historic center of the city. This central meeting point is easily accessible on foot from most Strasbourg city-center hotels.
Meet your friendly, English-speaking driver-guide, who will be holding a sign with the tour name and the Ophorus logo. After a brief introduction and overview of the day’s itinerary, board your modern, air-conditioned Mercedes minivan and relax as you leave Strasbourg and cross the border into Germany toward the Black Forest region.
Visit a 14th-Century Castle Ruin with Panoramic Views
Around 10:00 am, arrive at a scenic viewpoint high above Baden-Baden, where you will visit the ruins of a 14th-century castle (free access). Take your time to explore the atmospheric remains, learn about its history from your guide, and soak in the superb panoramic views over Baden-Baden, the surrounding hills, and the edge of the Black Forest.
This elevated vantage point is a fantastic spot for photos and offers an inspiring first impression of the landscapes that have made the Black Forest famous, from wooded slopes to the Rhine Valley in the distance.
Guided Walking Tour of Elegant Baden-Baden
By approximately 10:45 am, you reach the refined spa town of Baden-Baden, long renowned for its thermal baths, grand villas, and beautiful parks. Follow your guide on a walking tour that reveals the town’s elegant architecture and rich history as a favorite retreat for royalty, artists, and writers.
Stroll past landmarks such as the historic Kurhaus and its casino, graceful colonnades, and stylish streets leading to the leafy Lichtentaler Allee, a riverside promenade bordered by gardens and grand hotels. Your guide will share stories that bring the Belle Époque atmosphere of Baden-Baden to life.
Free Time for Lunch in Baden-Baden
Around 11:45 am, enjoy free time for lunch in Baden-Baden. The town offers a wide choice of restaurants, cafés, and bistros, from traditional German eateries to international cuisine, making it easy to find something to suit every taste and budget.
Take this opportunity to relax on a terrace, sample local specialties, or continue exploring the town at your own pace before rejoining your guide and group for the afternoon part of the tour.
Discover the Tranquil Beauty of Mummelsee
At about 1:15 pm, depart Baden-Baden and drive along a scenic section of the famous Schwarzwaldhochstrasse, one of Germany’s classic high roads through the Black Forest, to reach Mummelsee. Around 2:00 pm, arrive at this enchanting glacial cirque lake, set at an elevation of roughly 1,036 meters and surrounded by dense pine forest.
Enjoy free time at Mummelsee to walk along the lakeshore, take photos, browse the souvenir shops, or relax with a drink and a slice of the iconic Black Forest cake. The combination of crisp mountain air, reflective waters, and forested slopes makes this a memorable highlight of your Black Forest day trip from Strasbourg.
Scenic Drive to Sasbachwalden Vineyards & Panoramic Spot
Around 3:00 pm, continue your day with a scenic drive from Mummelsee toward the vineyards near Sasbachwalden. This area forms part of the Badische Weinstrasse, the Baden Wine Route, known for its hillside vineyards, orchards, and charming wine villages dotted along the slopes of the Black Forest.
Admire terraced vineyards, half-timbered houses, and flower-decked façades as you travel, and stop at a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the vineyards and village. This is the perfect moment to capture the landscape that blends Black Forest foothills with one of Germany’s most picturesque wine-growing areas.
Return to Strasbourg
At approximately 4:00 pm, begin the journey back to Strasbourg. Relax in the comfort of your minivan as you cross the border and enjoy the last views of the Black Forest hills. You can expect to arrive back in Strasbourg around 5:00 pm, with drop-off at or near the original meeting point.
This full-day Black Forest and Baden-Baden tour from Strasbourg offers a balanced mix of guided visits and free time, combining spa-town elegance, medieval castle ruins, a tranquil mountain lake, and scenic wine country. It is an ideal choice for travelers who want to experience the natural beauty and cultural highlights of the Black Forest in one memorable day.
