Experience the Charms of Colmar, Eguisheim & Riquewihr

Our thoughtfully crafted tour unveils the must-visit gems of Alsace, presenting a harmonious blend of charming towns, picturesque villages, and breathtaking landscapes. Our first stop transports us to Colmar, acclaimed by Frommer's as one of the region's most enchanting towns. On the way, admire the landscape covered with the Alsace vineyards on one side and the Black Forest on the other.

Colmar, situated at the border region between France and Germany, boasts a unique blend of influences that have shaped its character. As you step into the heart of the town, you'll find yourself transported to a bygone era. Colmar's well-preserved medieval and Renaissance architecture of the 14th to 17th century is a testament to its rich history.

A stroll through Colmar's "Little Venice" neighborhood is like stepping into a fairy tale. The picturesque streets are lined with charming half-timbered houses that date back to the Middle Ages. They exude a distinct charm, adorned with vibrant flowers that add a touch of color to this idyllic setting.

As you wander, you'll encounter architectural landmarks such as the Maison des Tetes, known for its ornate facade adorned with grotesque faces, and the Koifhus, a historical customs house that showcases impressive medieval architecture. The Pfister House is another gem, with its intricate woodwork and decorative elements.

Colmar's Saint Martin Church is a Gothic masterpiece that beckons with its soaring spire. The interior is equally impressive, with intricate stained glass windows and a serene ambiance that invites contemplation. Your guide will provide insights into the church's history and significance in the local community.

Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to explore the covered market, where you can discover local produce, artisanal goods, and the flavors of Alsace. This bustling marketplace is a testament to the region's culinary traditions.

Colmar has another claim to fame—it's the birthplace of Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, the 19th-century sculptor responsible for creating the Statue of Liberty. Learning about his life and artistic legacy adds a unique dimension to your visit to Colmar. The town's connections to the iconic statue make for an intriguing chapter in the story of this charming place.

Visit of Eguisheim and Riquewihr

Continuing our journey, we arrive at the idyllic village of Eguisheim, embraced by vineyards. Wander through its concentric, flower-lined streets and admire the architectural splendor of half-timbered houses.

Our next destination is the captivating town of Riquewihr, surrounded by well-preserved ramparts. Explore its charming streets, fortified walls, and 16th-century houses that exude architectural harmony.

Enjoy some free time for personal exploration and savor a delightful lunch (at own expense). While here, partake in a wine tasting session (not included) at one of the numerous wine cellars located within the town.

Embark on the Scenic Alsace Wine Route

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Alsace Wine Route, a route with over six decades of history that winds for more than 170 kilometers. It guides you through vine-covered hills, quaint villages with narrow streets, and houses adorned with vibrant flowers. Capture the essence of this enchanting region as you admire the stunning landscapes and immerse yourself in its rich viticultural heritage.

Visit the Majestic Haut Koenigsbourg Castle

Our grand finale awaits at the magnificent Haut Koenigsbourg Castle, once a medieval castle perched atop a hill, offering sweeping valley views. Since the 12th century, the castle was owned by either France or Germany.

A Strategic Stronghold

Haut Koenigsbourg Castle was strategically positioned to control vital trade routes, including those for wine and wheat to the North and the salt route from the East. As you ascend to the castle, you'll be struck by its imposing presence and the breathtaking views it commands of the surrounding valley.

Exploring the Castle

Your expert guide will lead you on an informative tour of this historic castle, delving into its fascinating past. The castle's architectural grandeur and well-preserved structures provide a vivid glimpse into medieval life in Alsace. You'll traverse the castle's various rooms, including the Great Hall, the Lord's Bedroom, and the Chapel, each offering insights into the castle's role and daily operations.

Defensive Features and Medieval Life

Haut Koenigsbourg Castle's defensive features, such as drawbridges, battlements, and fortified walls, reveal the strategic importance of this fortress. Your guide will explain the intricacies of these defenses and how they were used to protect the castle from invaders.

Additionally, you'll gain insights into the daily life of the castle's inhabitants. From the bustling kitchens to the impressive armory, you'll step into the shoes of those who called this castle home centuries ago.

Sweeping Views and Photography Opportunities

One of the highlights of your visit will undoubtedly be the panoramic views from the castle's towers. The vantage points offer breathtaking vistas of the Alsace countryside, with its rolling vineyards, charming villages, and lush forests. It's a photographer's dream and a moment of pure awe.

After an enriching day exploring the Pearls of Alsace, we'll return to Strasbourg, the Capital of Alsace, leaving you with enduring memories of this captivating region.
