Punctuality is crucial as winery visits have been exclusively reserved for our tour!

For our shared day trips departing from Strasbourg, we kindly request that you arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time. It's essential to be on time since Alsace wine tours adhere to strict schedules, with all winery visits meticulously pre-booked for our clients. Unlike many other wine destinations, you can't simply show up at a winery for a tour in Alsace, especially at the highly sought-after ones.

If you anticipate running late, please promptly contact us via SMS, phone, or email so that we can inform the driver/guide to wait. However, please note that the waiting time is limited to a maximum of 10 minutes. Failure to be present at the time of departure will result in your reservation being considered a no-show and will not be eligible for a refund.

Embark on a Memorable Journey with Your English-Speaking Driver/Guide

Upon arrival at the meeting point, you will be greeted by your knowledgeable English-speaking guide, identifiable by a sign displaying the tour name and the recognizable Ophorus logo. Our guides also wear distinctive nominative badges, making them easy to recognize.

Once acquainted with your guide, they will provide a comprehensive overview of the day's program and itinerary. Step into our comfortable, air-conditioned Mercedes minivan and begin your excursion to the enchanting Alsace wine region.

Experience the Allure of the Alsace Wine Route

Set off on a full-day Alsace wine tour along the famous Alsace Wine Route, a captivating pathway that stretches over 170 kilometers (106 miles) from north to south, meandering through the eastern foothills of the Vosges. This renowned route is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty, showcasing rolling vineyard-covered hills, charming villages, and captivating medieval architecture. During this tour departing from Strasbourg, you'll have the opportunity to explore three distinct wine-producing regions, discovering the diversity of Alsace's terroirs and sampling the exquisite local white wines.

Your journey commences with a visit to the Mittelbergheim/Barr wine producing regions. This area boasts a remarkable array of Alsace wines, including the Zotzenberg, Kastelberg, Wiebelsberg, and Kirchberg Grand Crus. The favorable soils here are particularly suited for Riesling, and you'll have the pleasure of indulging in your first Alsace wine tasting, savoring a selection of delightful white wines such as Pinot Blanc, Sylvaner, Pinot Gris, and Riesling.

Continuing on, we arrive at the Dambach La Ville wine area, considered the heart of the Alsace wine region. The village is home to the esteemed Grand Cru Frankstein. Riesling and Gewurztraminer thrive in the well-drained, granite-mica scree soils, offering wines of exceptional character. Take part in a second wine tasting session in a typical "caveau," the local wineries. Depending on the winery visited, you may also have the pleasure of discovering the crisp and refreshing "Crémant d'Alsace," the region's sparkling wine.

Indulge in the Beauty and Delight of More Wine Tastings

After enjoying some free time for lunch, we proceed to the Ribeauvillé/Riquewihr wine producing area, encompassed by five Grand Crus appellations: Geisberg, Kirchberg, Osterberg, Schoenenbourg, and Sporen. While Riesling reigns as the king of grapes in this region, Pinot Gris, Muscat, and Gewürztraminer also produce outstanding wines from the neighboring soils. Notable winegrowers, such as the historic Trimbach family since 1626 and the esteemed Hugel family since 1639, contribute to the region's winemaking legacy.

Prepare to be mesmerized by the beauty of these two medieval towns as you partake in an afternoon wine tasting at one of the meticulously selected wineries, providing the perfect conclusion to your Alsace wine-tasting experience. Throughout the afternoon, we'll delve into wine and food pairings, ensuring a comprehensive exploration of the region. Additionally, we'll make stops at stunning locations, ideal for photography enthusiasts. After an unforgettable tour, we'll return to Strasbourg.

Embark on an unforgettable full-day journey through the enchanting Alsace wine landscape. Book your tour today and immerse yourself in the beauty, history, and flavors of this remarkable region with our experienced and knowledgeable local driver/guide.

FAQ

  • What happens if we do not find the meeting point for our Shared Alsace Wine Tour?

You have to be at the meeting point at least 10 minutes prior to tour departure. If you are having difficulties finding the meeting point you must call us on our office number +33 556 152 609 so that we may help you find the exact area. Please note that tours leave on time and if you are not there at the designated area and indicated time the driver/guide will leave. Please refer to our terms and conditions for more information.
  • What type of vehicles are used during a day trip from Strasbourg?

Our company uses only Mercedes Vito Tourer 8 seater minivans that are recent, comfortable and fully equipped including individual A/C, shaded windows, large leg space and on board P/A system for commentaries by the guide.
  • Who conducts these Alsace shared wine tours from Strasbourg?

We only employ accredited and licensed tour guides that are also the drivers for all tours that need visits to be conducted by certified guides. Good examples are: the visit of museums, guided walking tours in cities, visit of historical monuments and so on.

In some regions, where wine tours prevail (Bordeaux, Alsace) the tours are conducted by professional local guides, that are experts in Wines. The very large majority of our guides hold at minimum the WSET level 2 in wines.
  • Can we choose which village we will visit on a shared Alsace Wine Tour?

No, unfortunately a scheduled tour is already pre-programmed and the wineries have been (carefully) selected. If you would like to visit some specific wineries while you are staying in Strasbourg or Colmar then do not hesitate to book one of our Alsace Private Wine Tours.
  • Are the Winery Tours private in Alsace?

During our scheduled/shared tours the visits at the wineries are not private and you may find yourself being grouped with others. Groups usually always remain in low numbers. If you are seeking a more exclusive Alsace Wine Tour then do not hesitate to book one of our private tours. We will organise a private visit just for you and your party.

Please note that on our shared Alsace Day Trips from Strasbourg, Ophorus tours are always conducted in English during the tours or at the wineries. Unlike other providers we refuse to mix languages.
  • What type of wines are produced in the Alsace region of France?

Alsace wines are essentially white wines. Here, the main characteristic is that Alsace wines are varietal wines. The grape varieties that are allowed are Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir (the only red grape variety), Sylvaner and Muscat. Most wines produced are dry white wines but other wines include Sparkling wines, late harvest wines or sweet wines. Then there are Grands Crus Alsace wines that make up for just 4% of the total production.
  • How many Alsace wines will I taste during this tour?

In Alsace, there are 7 different varietal wines, sparkling wines and sweet white wines. The range is therefore quite large and depending on the wineries visited you will wine taste anything from 4 to 7 or more wines per winery. Alsace winery visits are a treat for all white wine lovers!
  • Where will we have time for lunch during the Alsace full day wine tour?

During your shared Alsace wine tour from Strasbourg you will have the possibility to take lunch in a authentic village chosen by your guide. There will be several options, ask your guide for recommendations. Villages can include Riquewihr, Ribeauvillé, Kaysersberg and so on.
