Easy Pick-Up from Le Havre Cruise Terminal Your day begins with convenient pick-up directly at the Le Havre cruise terminal. Your guide greets you at your ship, reviews the itinerary, and helps you settle into a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle. As you drive through the Normandy countryside, you pass traditional villages and rolling farmland while your guide sets the scene for the D-Day operations and the role of the American sector.
Pointe du Hoc (or Longues-sur-Mer Battery) When access allows, your tour may include Pointe du Hoc, the dramatic cliff-top strongpoint between Utah and Omaha Beaches, where U.S. Rangers scaled the cliffs under fire to neutralize German artillery threatening the invasion fleet. Walking among bomb craters and concrete bunkers, you learn why this position was so strategically important and how the assault there became one of the most famous actions of D-Day.
⚠️ Please note: Due to road and construction works at Pointe du Hoc, access to the site may be limited in 2026 & 2027. In the event of closure, this visit will be replaced by the Longues-sur-Mer Battery, one of the best-preserved German coastal artillery sites in Normandy, offering original guns, intact casemates and sweeping views over the Bay of the Seine.
Omaha Beach – The Toughest Landing Sector One of the major stops on this tour is Omaha Beach, the most heavily defended and costly of the Allied landing zones. Here you learn how pre-landing bombardments failed to fully neutralize German defenses and how mislandings and difficult terrain contributed to heavy casualties among the first waves of American troops. Walking along the sand and looking up at the bluffs, you have time to reflect on the scale of the challenge and the determination that ultimately turned a near-disaster into a hard-won foothold.
Normandy American Cemetery – A Lasting Tribute Your tour continues to the Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, overlooking the eastern end of Omaha Beach. This moving site, the first American cemetery established in Europe during World War II, honors thousands of U.S. servicemen who fell during the Battle of Normandy. You can stroll among the perfectly aligned white crosses and Stars of David, visit the memorial and reflection pool, and, when time permits, explore the Visitor Center for additional context on the landings and the wider campaign.

These alternative sites offer a similar historical significance. Your guide will ensure you enjoy a meaningful and informative experience, whichever site is available on the day of your tour.

What should I expect on a Shore Excursion with Ophorus?

All our shore excursions are for small groups only, we do not cater for groups larger than 20 persons. Typically, we use premium minivans that will take up to 7 or 8 persons maximum. If your group is larger, then we will provide a small minibus but no larger than 20 passenger seats. -
How strenuous is this shore excursion?
This tour is accessible to all as it does not involve a large amount of walking. Normandy beaches are flat and very accessible. -
Can we choose which D-Day sites we would like to visit?
Yes, absolutely you can let our team of travel designers know which sites you would like to include and they will adapt the tour to your wishes. -
Is lunch included on this full day shore excursion from Le Havre?
We never include lunch on our private shore excursions from Le Havre. If you would like us to pre-book a specific restaurant for you and your party just let us know and we will organize this for you at no extra cost. Ideally, speak with your guide in the morning and indicate what you are expecting for lunch and she/he will be happy to suggest corresponding options. -
Should I bring something specific for this Shore Excursion?
Always check the weather before you follow one of our shore excursions. By doing so, adapt your clothing to the local weather conditions. On one of our shore excursions we will not require you to bring your passport but it is always better to have some type of ID just in case. We strongly recommend that you bring with you a photocopy of any ID. Good walking shoes are always recommended in France as you never know on what type of grounds you might be walking.
