Program & Itinerary
This private full-day tour is built around a simple but compelling idea: the best of Bordeaux in a single day. A morning spent exploring the city's UNESCO-listed architecture and history with an accredited local guide, followed by an afternoon in the Saint-Émilion appellation — the medieval village, the vineyards, and a visit to a Grand Cru Classé estate on the Right Bank. Two of the region's greatest experiences, back to back, with your own private guide throughout.
Morning: Private Walking Tour of Bordeaux
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel or accommodation in Bordeaux and begin the day on foot in the heart of the city. Bordeaux is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most architecturally significant cities in France, with an extraordinary concentration of 18th-century neoclassical buildings that few visitors truly explore in depth.
The tour takes in Place des Quinconces, one of the largest public squares in Europe, dominated by the monumental Monument aux Girondins and its flanking statues of Montesquieu and Montaigne — two of Bordeaux's most celebrated intellectual figures. From there, you move into the Golden Triangle, the elegant commercial heart of the city, where grand boulevards converge around the Grand Théâtre, completed in 1780 by architect Victor Louis and considered one of the finest opera houses in France. The tour continues through Place de la Bourse — with its celebrated Miroir d'Eau water mirror — past Saint-André Cathedral and the Pey Berland Tower, and along the Rue Sainte-Catherine, one of the longest pedestrian shopping streets in Europe.
Afternoon: Saint-Émilion Village and Wine Tour
After your morning in the city, your guide drives you east into the Saint-Émilion appellation — one of Bordeaux's most celebrated wine regions and itself a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The medieval village of Saint-Émilion, perched on a limestone plateau above the Dordogne valley, is one of the most beautiful in southwest France, with its cobbled streets, Romanesque church, underground monolithic cave church, and panoramic views over the vines.
You will have free time to explore the village independently and enjoy lunch at one of its many restaurants — your guide can suggest and pre-book on request. In the afternoon, the tour continues to a Grand Cru Classé estate, where a guided visit of the vineyard and cellar is followed by a structured tasting of the estate's wines. The Saint-Émilion appellation is dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Franc — varieties that produce wines of remarkable richness, elegance, and complexity on these limestone and clay soils. Your guide will provide context throughout, connecting what you see in the cellar to what you taste in the glass.
The tour returns to Bordeaux at the end of the afternoon.
