The Magic of Alsace: Full-Day Wine & Village Tour from Colmar
Welcome to Alsace
Welcome to Alsace, one of France’s most distinctive wine regions, renowned for its exceptional aromatic white wines and storybook villages. Your adventure begins with a warm greeting from your knowledgeable English-speaking guide, identifiable by the tour sign and the recognizable Ophorus logo. All our guides wear nominative badges for easy connection at the meeting point in Colmar.
Get Ready to Explore in Comfort
After meeting your guide, you’ll receive a comprehensive overview of the full-day program. Step into a comfortable, air-conditioned Mercedes minivan equipped with an onboard P.A. system, ensuring clear commentary throughout the journey, wherever you are seated.
Discover the Enchanting Alsace Wine Route
Embark on a full-day exploration of the world-famous Alsace Wine Route, a captivating 170-kilometer stretch along the foothills of the Vosges Mountains. Immerse yourself in rolling vineyards, medieval villages, and castle ruins that define this renowned French wine region.
As you travel, your guide explains how Alsace’s unique mix of climate, geology, and relief creates an ideal terroir for producing high-quality wines with strong personality and expression.
Unveil the Secrets of Alsace Wines
Your small-group tour includes several stops in charming wine villages where you will visit local cellars and enjoy guided tastings. Sample a wide range of Alsace wines, including village-level wines and prestigious Grands Crus.
Savor varietals such as Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc, and more. At each cellar, personalized commentary by a family member or cellar master helps you understand grape varieties, terroir, food pairings, and centuries-old winemaking traditions.
Villages, Landscapes & Local Culture
Continue your journey with visits to renowned villages such as Riquewihr or nearby wine towns, where you will have free time for exploration and lunch (at your own expense). Wander cobbled streets lined with half-timbered houses, flower-decked balconies, and wine shops offering local specialties.
Throughout the day, your guide highlights differences between terroirs, vintages, Grands Crus, and cuvées, making this tour an ideal introduction for both curious beginners and seasoned wine lovers eager to deepen their knowledge of Alsatian white wines.

Know before you book
What to know before your tour?
Enjoying wine is a wonderful part of discovering France’s culture and heritage. We encourage guests to savor each tasting responsibly and at their own pace. Please remember that wine contains alcohol, and moderation helps you fully appreciate the flavors, keep a clear head throughout the tour, and make the most of your experience.
In France, snacks are usually not provided during wine tastings to preserve the purity of the wine's flavor. We recommend having a good breakfast or lunch beforehand.

What happens if we do not find the meeting point for our Shared Alsace Wine Tour?
You have to be at the meeting point at least 10 minutes prior to tour departure. If you are having difficulties finding the meeting point you must call us on our office number +33 556 152 609 so that we may help you find the exact area. Please note that tours leave on time and if you are not there at the designated area and indicated time the driver/guide will leave. Please refer to our terms and conditions for more information. -
What type of vehicles are used during a day trip from Colmar?
Our company uses only Mercedes Vito Tourer 8 seater minivans that are recent, comfortable and fully equipped including individual A/C, shaded windows, large leg space and on board P/A system for commentaries by the guide. -
Who conducts these Alsace shared wine tours from Colmar?
We only employ accredited and licensed tour guides that are also the drivers for all tours that need visits to be conducted by certified guides. Good examples are: the visit of museums, guided walking tours in cities, visit of historical monuments and so on.
In some regions, where wine tours prevail (Bordeaux, Alsace) the tours are conducted by professional local guides, that are experts in Wines. The very large majority of our guides hold at minimum the WSET level 2 in wines. -
Can we choose which village we will visit on a shared Alsace Wine Tour?
No, unfortunately a scheduled tour is already pre-programmed and the wineries have been (carefully) selected. If you would like to visit some specific wineries while you are staying in Strasbourg or Colmar then do not hesitate to book one of our Alsace Private Wine Tours. -
Are the Winery Tours private in Alsace?
During our scheduled/shared tours the visits at the wineries are not private and you may find yourself being grouped with others. Groups usually always remain in low numbers. If you are seeking a more exclusive Alsace Wine Tour then do not hesitate to book one of our private tours. We will organise a private visit just for you and your party.
Please note that on our shared Alsace Day Trips from Colmar, Ophorus tours are always conducted in English during the tours or at the wineries. Unlike other providers we refuse to mix languages. -
What type of wines are produced in the Alsace region of France?
Alsace wines are essentially white wines. Here, the main characteristic is that Alsace wines are varietal wines. The grape varieties that are allowed are Riesling, Pinto Blanc, Auxerrois, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir (the only red grape variety), Sylvaner and Muscat. Most wines produced are dry white wines but other wines include Sparkling wines, late harvest wines or sweet wines. Then there are Grands Crus Alsace wines that make up for just 4% of the total production. -
How many Alsace wines will I taste during this tour?
In Alsace, there are 7 different varietal wines, sparkling wines and sweet white wines. The range is therefore quite large and depending on the wineries visited you will wine taste anything from 4 to 7 or more wines per winery. Alsace winery visits are a treat for all white wine lovers! -
Where will we have time for lunch during the Alsace full day wine tour?
During your shared Alsace wine tour from Colmar you will have the possibility to take lunch in a authentic village chosen by your guide. There will be several options, ask your guide for recommendations. Villages can include Riquewihr, Ribeauvillé, Kaysersberg and so on.
