Walk towards the Market and begin your discovery of the best produce of the Dordogne region. Your first stop will be at a cheese producing shop that has its own maturing cellar. Savor the opportunity to sample a variety of artisanal cheeses as our guide introduces you to the intricate nuances of flavor. Your next stop will be at a family run delicacies shop. Here, we will stop to taste small toasts spread with patés, enchaud and foie gras from either duck or goose. Finish this tasting stop with a local cheese called Trappe d'Echourgnac. Trappist cheese is pressed, uncooked, fermented by retro-rubbing or by using the “morge” scrubbing technique. Then walnut liqueur is added. How much? And, then what? Well, that’s a secret never to be told! All this will be rinsed with a tasting of a White & Red Bergerac wines. Walnut Bakery
Your final stop will be at a local walnut cake bakery. No gourmet experience in Sarlat-la-Canéda would be complete without trying the town's famed walnut-based delicacies. Who conducts these Sarlat Gourmet Food tours?
Our Sarlat tours are conducted by one of our in-house licensed guides. They know perfectly the town of Sarlat and will answer any question that you might have - History, Culture & lifestyle. This morning, follow them through the Market on a food tour to taste some of the local produce. -
How strenuous is this tour?
This tour includes some walking around the medieval town of Sarlat, where you have still a large number of cobblestone streets. The tour lasts 2 hours and there are not many places to have a seat. -
How many specialities will I taste during this tour?
Depending on your guide, you will taste a number of specialties. Usually, we include tastings of local produce such as bread, cheese, ham or cured meat, foie gras, walnut based products and wine. Some guides have more affinities with local producers that bring their own produce so it might be that you will stop in different stalls. -
Can I buy some of the produce that we taste?
Yes, of course you can buy directly from the producers or shops where the tastings take place. After the tour, you will aslo have time to stroll and sample from other producers. One important thing to know is that you will need to have some cash with you as not many producers accept credit cards.
