Program & Itinerary
Meet your English speaking local guide, expert in WWII
Today, meet your English speaking guide who is an expert of the Normandy landing beaches and D-Day event and who will go over the itinerary and program of this half day tour with you. Then, board your spacious, comfortable, air conditioned Mercedes minivan and begin to make your way to the Quercy region of France.
Travel in a spacious Mercedes Minivan
Your private Sarlat Sightseeing Tour will take place in one of our very spacious Mercedes Minivans. This vehicle can take up to 8 persons normally but on this occasion, the vehicle will only be for you. This allows you to choose the seat that you think best in terms of social distancing while still enjoying the information passed on by your guide.
All our vehicles are equipped with an on board P/A system that allows you to hear the commentary of your driver/guide no matter where you are seated. Also, there is free Wi-Fi access on all tour vehicles. Bottled water is also available in all our vehicles.
Begin your Omaha & D-Day sites excursion
This small group tour from Bayeux is dedicated to the most significant US battlefield sites of D-Day including Omaha beach, Pointe du Hoc and the US Cemetery in Colleville sur Mer. This tour is a perfect introduction to this period of time for those of you who have only but a short time in the area.
Reach the coastal battlefields road
Departing from Bayeux, your private tour will first reach the coastal battlefield area and d-day landing beach of Omaha beach. Here, listen to your guide as you are taken back in time to hear the tale of one of the boldest and most successful large scale invasions in military history.
Omaha was by far the toughest assignment in Overlord and was the most heavily defended of all the beaches; its bunkers, fighting positions, and obstacles were intended to repel any Allied landing. Your Guide, expert in the battle of Normandy, will retrace for you how it happened and where the fighting took place.
Drive to Pointe du Hoc
After a short drive, you will be taken to the Pointe du Hoc site; located between Utah & Omaha beaches, this prominent position along the coast of Normandy, was a focal point of the amphibious assault by U.S. forces during the early morning hours of D-Day, 6 June 1944.
Here, Lt. Col. James E. Rudder, commanding the 2nd Ranger Battalion, received the mission to land at 6:30 a.m., scale the 100 foot cliffs, and disable the German positions. Lt. Col. Max F. Schneider’s 5th Ranger Battalion would follow and reinforce them.
Arrive on the site of Pointe du Hoc. Your half day tour includes a walk along the cliff, surrounded by the incredible lunar, battle scarred landscape. Today, one can imagine the number of shells falling and leaving their print as the grounds are dotted with the craters left by the bombardments.
Visit the Normandy American Cemetery
End your sightseeing tour with a stop at the Normandy American Cemetery. Located in Colleville-sur-Mer, on the site of the temporary American St. Laurent Cemetery, established by the U.S. First Army on June 8, 1944 as the first American cemetery on European soil in World War II.
Here you will have some time to walk around and pay homage but also visit the Visitor Center that provides a fuller array of visitor services to put the D-Day landings in perspective as one of the greatest military achievements in history. After the visit, return to Bayeux.
We also organize full day personalized tours in Normandy to the Utah beach area including Saint Mere Eglise and the Airborne Museum. Other sites include Sword Beach and guided tours to Mont Saint Michel.
