Program & Itinerary
Pick up at centrally located meeting point in Strasbourg
This morning, we will come and pick you up in front of the Strasbourg Tourism Office. The Strasbourg tourist office is located at 17 Place de la Cathédrale 67000 Strasbourg, in the heart of the city, next to the Cathedral. The tourism office is located close to all the hotels located in the city center, usually a maximum 10 minutes walking distance.
Please be on time as winery visits have been pre-booked just for us!
For all our shared day trips from Strasbourg, we ask our clients to be present 10 minutes before departure time. It is important to be on time as Alsace wine tours imply strict timing as all the wineries visited have been pre-booked especially for our clients. Due to this, all our tours must leave on time to meet this schedule. In Alsace, unlike many other wine destinations, it is not possible to just show up at a winery for a tour, especially for the wineries that are highly demanded.
If you think that you might be late, please contact us rapidly by sms, phone or email so that we can advise the driver/guide to wait. However, waiting time is limited to 10 minutes maximum. If you are not present at the time of departure, your reservation will be considered as a no show and will not be refunded!
Meet your English Speaking Driver/Guide who is a local Expert on Alsace Wines
Upon arrival at the meeting point, you will be welcomed by your English speaking guide who will be waiting with a sign bearing the name of the tour and with the Ophorus logo on it. Also, all our guides have a nominative badge so that it will be easy for you to recognize them.
Once you have met your guide, he/she will go over the program and itinerary of the day with you. Then, board your comfortable, air conditioned Mercedes minivan and begin to make your way to the Alsace wine producing region.
All our vehicles are equipped with an on board P/A system which means that everyone will hear the guide's commentary during driving time, even if you are seated in the back of the van! Also, we have bottled water at your disposal and you can use our free wifi as you travel from one destination to another.
A Full-Day Experience of the Incredible Alsace Wine Landscape
Depart for a full-day Alsace wine tour; the Alsace Wine Route winds its way from north to south for more than 170 kilometers (106 miles) along the eastern foothills of the Vosges. It has become famous the world over for its exceptional natural beauty as it leads visitors across rows of undulating, vine-covered hills and through quaint villages. On this full-day wine tour departing from Strasbourg, you will enjoy stops in 3 different wine producing regions so that you can compare the diversity of the terroirs found in the Alsace vineyard as well as the local white wines produced here. The tour also stops in some of the most beautiful medieval villages of Alsace so that you may get the local, authentic feel of the region.
Begin the day with a stop in the Mittelbergheim / Barr wine producing regions. The area is home to a numerous number of types of Alsace wines such as the Zotzenberg, Kastelberg, Wiebelsberg and Kirchberg Grand Crus. The soils found here are particularly favorable for Riesling as well. Here, experience your first Alsace wine discovery by tasting a selection of different delicious white wines including Pinot Blanc, Sylvaner, Pinot Gris and Riesling.
Continue on to Dambach La Ville wine area. The village itself is considered to be located at the heart of the Alsace wine region and is home to the Grand Cru Frankstein. Riesling and Gewurztraminer are particularly well adapted to the well-drained, granite-mica scree which filters water and retains heat well. Then, on this tour from Strasbourg, enjoy a second wine tasting session in a typical “caveau”, the name given to the local wineries. You might also be introduced, depending on the winery visited, to a crisp and refreshing “Crémant d’Alsace”, the local sparkling wines.
Be Amazed by the Beauty and Enjoy More Wine Tasting
After some free time for lunch, depart for the Ribeauvillé/Riquewihr wine producing area that is surrounded by 5 Grand Crus appellations: Geisberg, Kirchberg, Osterberg, Schoenenbourg and Sporen. If Riesling is without a doubt the king of grapes in this area, Pinot Gris, Muscat and Gewürztraminer are also known to produce excellent wines on the neighboring soils. Here, famous wine growers include the Trimbach family that have been making wine since 1626 or the Hugel family who only began their activity in 1639!
Not only will you be amazed by the beauty of these two Medieval towns, but you will also experience your afternoon tasting in one of the most highly selected wineries so as to complete your Alsace wine tasting experience. During the afternoon, we will also talk about wine and food pairings. The day will also include some stops in stunning locations for photography enthusiasts. After the tour, return to Strasbourg.
DECEMBER 2022:
Please note that due to the actual, exceptional and unpredictable bad weather conditions, the itinerary and program may change during the tour. The guides will do their best to adapt the tours to your preferences and your security as well.
Feel free to contact us if you have any questions before your tour.

FAQ
-
What happens if we do not find the meeting point for our Shared Alsace Wine Tour?
You have to be at the meeting point at least 10 minutes prior to tour departure. If you are having difficulties finding the meeting point you must call us on our office number +33 556 152 609 so that we may help you find the exact area. Please note that tours leave on time and if you are not there at the designated area and indicated time the driver/guide will leave. Please refer to our terms and conditions for more information. -
What type of vehicles are used during a day trip from Strasbourg?
Our company uses only Mercedes Vito Tourer 8 seater minivans that are recent, comfortable and fully equipped including individual A/C, shaded windows, large leg space and on board P/A system for commentaries by the guide. -
Who conducts these Alsace shared wine tours from Strasbourg?
We only employ accredited and licensed tour guides that are also the drivers for all tours that need visits to be conducted by certified guides. Good examples are: the visit of museums, guided walking tours in cities, visit of historical monuments and so on.
In some regions, where wine tours prevail (Bordeaux, Alsace) the tours are conducted by professional local guides, that are experts in Wines. The very large majority of our guides hold at minimum the WSET level 2 in wines. -
Can we choose which village we will visit on a shared Alsace Wine Tour?
No, unfortunately a scheduled tour is already pre-programmed and the wineries have been (carefully) selected. If you would like to visit some specific wineries while you are staying in Strasbourg or Colmar then do not hesitate to book one of our Alsace Private Wine Tours. -
Are the Winery Tours private in Alsace?
During our scheduled/shared tours the visits at the wineries are not private and you may find yourself being grouped with others. Groups usually always remain in low numbers. If you are seeking a more exclusive Alsace Wine Tour then do not hesitate to book one of our private tours. We will organise a private visit just for you and your party.
Please note that on our shared Alsace Day Trips from Strasbourg, Ophorus tours are always conducted in English during the tours or at the wineries. Unlike other providers we refuse to mix languages. -
What type of wines are produced in the Alsace region of France?
Alsace wines are essentially white wines. Here, the main characteristic is that Alsace wines are varietal wines. The grape varieties that are allowed are Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir (the only red grape variety), Sylvaner and Muscat. Most wines produced are dry white wines but other wines include Sparkling wines, late harvest wines or sweet wines. Then there are Grands Crus Alsace wines that make up for just 4% of the total production. -
How many Alsace wines will I taste during this tour?
In Alsace, there are 7 different varietal wines, sparkling wines and sweet white wines. The range is therefore quite large and depending on the wineries visited you will wine taste anything from 4 to 7 or more wines per winery. Alsace winery visits are a treat for all white wine lovers! -
Where will we have time for lunch during the Alsace full day wine tour?
During your shared Alsace wine tour from Strasbourg you will have the possibility to take lunch in a authentic village chosen by your guide. There will be several options, ask your guide for recommendations. Villages can include Riquewihr, Ribeauvillé, Kaysersberg and so on.
