Mont Saint Michel: A Guided Journey Through History
Join us on an unforgettable Normandy adventure and explore the captivating Mont Saint Michel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Immerse yourself in the history and wonder of this unique tidal island alongside a local expert, your English-speaking guide.
Your Mont Saint Michel day trip begins in Bayeux, where you'll meet your friendly guide. Step aboard a comfortable, air-conditioned Mercedes minivan equipped with an onboard P.A. system, ensuring clear and engaging commentary throughout the scenic journey to southern Normandy.
Prepare to be awestruck by the sight of Mont Saint Michel, a Gothic marvel situated off the coast, connected to the mainland by a bridge that occasionally surrenders to Europe's powerful tides.
Explore the Abbey, a testament to the skill of medieval architects. Delve into the Abbey's fascinating history, dating back to 708 AD when Bishop Aubert of Avranches received a vision from Archangel Michael.
Witness the architectural evolution, from the Romanesque style to the magnificent Merveille (Marvel) complex built in the Gothic era.
Follow your expert guide on an engaging walking tour, uncovering the rich history and architectural wonders of the Abbey. Capture breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding bay as your guide brings the stories of this remarkable place to life.
After exploring the Abbey, enjoy free time to wander through the charming village at your own pace. Browse unique shops for souvenirs and discover the perfect spot for lunch based on your guide's recommendations.
For a truly decadent experience, consider visiting the world-famous La Mère Poulard restaurant, renowned for its unique omelet soufflé (be prepared for potential wait times).
Don't miss this opportunity to explore the enchanting Mont Saint Michel with our expert guide. Book your unforgettable journey through Normandy's captivating history and beauty today!
Please note: The walk to the Abbey may be challenging for those with limited mobility due to the climb of approximately 350 steps. Access to Mont Saint Michel island is facilitated by a shuttle and bridge, as per local regulations.

If you are looking to experience Normandy in the best possible way, then our day trips from Bayeux make for an ideal departure point. The charming small town of Bayeux has a large number of options when it comes to accommodation and dining. Moreover, the historic medieval city centre as well as the famous Tapestry are part of the best things to do while in Bayeux. -
Will we have some free time for personal discovery of Mont Saint Michel?
Yes, after the morning guided visit of the Abbey, the rest of your time at the Mont Saint Michel is for you to enjoy. You can either stay a bit more at the top of the Mount or decide to make your way back down slowly. On your way, don't hesitate to take some of the smaller side streets that are less crowded and that can lead to some stunning views over the Bay. -
How difficult is it to reach Mont Saint Michel Abbey?
Mont Saint Michel as the name points out, is a mount and the Abbey is located at the top of the Mount! There are roughly 350 stairs that you will need to climb to reach the Abbey - around 200 stairs are in the village itself and the remaining 150 are within the Abbey. Therefore, if you have reduced mobility then the safer option is to stay in the village. This tour is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. -
