Program & Itinerary
Private Médoc Wine Shore Excursion from Pauillac Cruise Port
Make the most of your stop in Pauillac with a private Médoc wine tour crafted for cruise guests. Discover world‑famous châteaux, taste powerful Cabernet‑based reds, and travel the legendary Route des Châteaux with your own Bordeaux wine expert.
Meet your English‑speaking Bordeaux wine expert
In the morning, your English‑speaking driver/guide will meet you directly at your cruise ship in Pauillac. Specialised in Bordeaux wines, your guide will present the itinerary, listen to your preferences (iconic names, small family estates, more tastings, etc.), and tailor the day accordingly. Then board your premium air‑conditioned vehicle and set off into the heart of the Médoc vineyards.
Travel in a spacious premium vehicle
Your private Médoc wine tour takes place in a comfortable Mercedes minivan accommodating up to 8 guests. An on‑board PA system ensures everyone can hear the commentary clearly, wherever they are seated, and there is ample space for both guests and any bottles you may choose to purchase along the way.
Follow the Left Bank into iconic appellations
Leaving Pauillac, head along the Left Bank into some of Bordeaux’s most prestigious appellations, such as Margaux, Saint‑Julien, Pauillac, Saint‑Estèphe, and Haut‑Médoc. As you drive past rows of vines and fairy‑tale turrets, your guide will explain the role of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and other varietals, as well as the history behind Bordeaux classifications and Grand Cru estates.
Visit hand‑picked châteaux on the Route des Châteaux
During the day, visit two carefully selected estates, which may include Grand Cru Classé, Classified Growth, or quality Cru Bourgeois properties, depending on availability and your interests. At each château, tour the vineyards and cellars, learn about harvesting, fermentation, and barrel aging, and then enjoy a guided tasting of their wines. This is your chance to ask all your questions in a relaxed, small‑group setting and really understand what you are tasting.
Learn to taste like a pro
With an accredited guide by your side, you will be invited to evaluate wines using sight, nose, and palate, and to recognise structure, tannins, and typical Médoc aromas. Your guide will happily adapt explanations for complete beginners or more seasoned enthusiasts, and can offer tips on food pairings, serving temperatures, and how to choose Médoc wines at home.
Discover the styles of the Médoc
As you taste, you will also discover how each appellation expresses its own personality. Margaux is often associated with finesse and fragrant, silky wines; Saint‑Julien with power and balance; Pauillac with full‑bodied, age‑worthy reds; and Haut‑Médoc with a diversity of styles from nearly 400 producers. When timing allows, your guide may even include a photo stop near a famous estate such as Château Margaux to capture an iconic souvenir.
Lunch in the heart of the Médoc (at own expense)
Midday, pause in a local restaurant or bistro recommended by your guide to enjoy regional specialties — think duck, grilled meats, or classic French dishes — naturally with the option to add a glass of Bordeaux wine. Lunch is at your own expense, and we can assist with pre‑booking to secure a table for your party.
Return to your ship in Pauillac
After your final château visit and tasting, relax on the short drive back to the port. Your guide will drop you at your cruise ship in Pauillac, leaving you with a deeper understanding of Médoc wines and a truly memorable day in Bordeaux’s Left Bank vineyards.
