Join us for an unforgettable wine tour experience in Bordeaux's renowned Medoc region. Our small group tour ensures personalized attention as you uncover the secrets of French winemaking. Discover the beauty of Medoc, taste prestigious wines, and immerse yourself in the rich wine culture guided by our local wine experts.

Centrally located meeting point in Bordeaux

Conveniently start your tour at the Bordeaux Tourism Office, situated at 12 cours du 30 Juillet, 33000 BORDEAUX. This central location offers easy access to all city center hotels, just a short 10-minute walk away. If your hotel is located slightly outside the historical center, such as near the train station or other mentioned hotels, simply take the tram to the Quinconces tram station, conveniently located next to the Bordeaux Tourism Office.

Be punctual for pre-booked winery visits

To ensure a smooth tour experience, we kindly request that you arrive at the meeting point 10 minutes before departure time. Our Bordeaux wine tours adhere to strict schedules, as all winery visits are pre-booked exclusively for our clients. Unlike other wine destinations, Bordeaux wineries do not accommodate walk-in visitors, particularly those in high demand.

Please inform us if you anticipate being late, and we will make arrangements to accommodate you if possible. However, waiting time is limited to a maximum of 10 minutes. Failure to be present at departure time will be considered a no-show, and refunds will not be provided.

Meet your knowledgeable English-speaking guide

Upon arrival at the meeting point, our friendly guide will be waiting for you, holding a sign displaying the tour name and our distinctive Ophorus logo. You can easily recognize our guides by their nominative badges. Your guide will provide an overview of the day's program and itinerary. Once you're ready, hop aboard our comfortable, air-conditioned Mercedes minivan, equipped with an onboard P/A system, ensuring that everyone can hear the guide's commentary during the journey. Stay connected with our complimentary Wi-Fi and enjoy bottled water throughout the tour.

Morning - Drive along the Chateau Road and visit a prestigious winery

Embark on an extraordinary full-day tour of the Medoc wine region, guided by local wine experts. Delve into the captivating world of Medoc wines, known for their exceptional quality. Begin your adventure by driving along the enchanting Castle Road (D2), lined with renowned wineries like Chateau Palmer, Chateau Margaux, and Chateau Latour. As you explore various appellations such as Margaux, Saint Julien, Pauillac, and Saint Estephe, be prepared to be captivated by the picturesque landscapes.

At your first winery visit, you'll discover the property's history and indulge in a guided tour of the technical installations, gaining insight into the winemaking process from vineyard to bottling. Conclude the visit with a delightful wine tasting experience, where you'll savor the refined flavors and aromas of the wines. Bordeaux tastings are known for their elegance and quality rather than quantity, allowing you to appreciate the nuanced characteristics of each wine. Feel free to purchase bottles directly from the winery to enhance your wine collection.

Reach the charming town of Pauillac for a leisurely lunch

Continuing your journey, your guide will point out scenic spots along the way, offering excellent photo opportunities amidst the vineyards. Upon reaching the town of Pauillac, enjoy a relaxing lunch (at own expense) at one of the recommended eateries. Considering the timing constraints for winery visits, we suggest opting for a light lunch to make the most of your experience.

Afternoon - Visit and wine tastings at two carefully selected wineries

Following lunch, the tour continues with visits to two distinct wineries carefully chosen to provide a comprehensive Medoc wine experience. Each winery represents a different appellation, showcasing the unique terroir of the region. Gain a deeper understanding of winemaking techniques and the importance of terroir in Bordeaux wines.

During the visits, you'll also learn about the historical significance of wine trading in Bordeaux, dating back to the 11th century. Discover the role of the 300 trading houses, known as "Place de Bordeaux," which blend, age, and sell wines under their own brands, guaranteeing expertise and a consistent supply to consumers and retailers.

Conclude your tour and return to Bordeaux

After the two captivating winery visits and wine tastings, we begin our journey back to Bordeaux. Take in the beauty of the countryside as you reflect on the day's wine discoveries. Arriving back in Bordeaux, our services for the tour come to a close.

Don't miss the opportunity to book your Medoc wine tour with us, and embark on a delightful journey through Bordeaux's prestigious wine region. Reserve your spot now and indulge in the exquisite wines and enchanting vineyard experiences that await you.

We only employ accredited and licensed tour guides that are also the drivers for all tours that need visits to be conducted by certified guides. Good examples are: the visit of museums, guided walking tours in cities, visit of historical monuments and so on. In some regions, where wine tours prevail (Bordeaux, Alsace) the tours are conducted by professional local guides, that are experts in Wines. Most of our Guides in Bordeaux hold the WSET level 2 in wines or are professional sommeliers.
  • How many wineries will be visited during the tour?

During our Bordeaux Medoc wine tour, you will visit multiple wineries. Typically, we include visits to three carefully selected wineries to ensure a comprehensive experience of the Medoc wine region.
  • How many Bordeaux wines will I taste during this Médoc Wine tour?

Unlike other wine tasting sessions that you might have followed around the world, the tastings in Bordeaux are not as generous in terms of pours . The amount of wine tasted is not what many would expect but here it is all about elegance, fruit, quality, aromas and flavors rather than quantity.

Each Chateau will have you taste their premium wine and what we call the 'second' wine of the estate. Sometimes, Chateau owners also add a tasting of some other wine if they happen to be the owners of another Chateau in Bordeaux. So basically, at each winery visited it will be 2 to maximum 4 wines tasted.

If you wish to taste more wine, lunch in Pauillac is a perfect location to sample other appellations - it is easy to order wines by the glass. To further enhance your wine experience, it is always possible to buy some bottles at the wineries visited. Bordeaux has also a very large number of wine bars where you can enjoy a further tasting experience. Ask your guide for great recommendations.
  • Can I purchase wine at the visited wineries?

Yes, you will have the opportunity to purchase wine at the wineries we visit. If you find wines that you particularly enjoy, you can buy bottles directly from the wineries to take home and savor the flavors of Bordeaux. Some wineries will also offer some shipping options for those who would like to send some wine home.
  • Can we choose which wineries we will visit on a shared Bordeaux Wine Tour?

No, unfortunately a scheduled tour is already pre-programmed and the wineries have been (carefully) selected. If you would like to visit some specific wineries while you are staying in Bordeaux then do not hesitate to book one of our Private Wine Tours from Bordeaux.
  • Are lunch options provided during the tour?

While lunch is not included in the tour, upon reaching the town of Pauillac, your guide will point out various lunch options. To ensure ample time for the winery visits, we recommend opting for a light lunch that won't be time-consuming.
  • Are the Winery Tours private?

During our scheduled/shared tours the visits at the wineries are not private and you may find yourself being grouped with others. Groups usually always remain in low numbers. If you are seeking a more exclusive Bordeaux Wine Tour then do not hesitate to book one of our private tours. We will organise a private visit just for you and your party.

Please note that on our shared Bordeaux Day Trips, Ophorus tours are always conducted in English during the tours or at the wineries. Unlike other providers we refuse to mix languages.
  • What is the significance of the Medoc wine region?

The Medoc wine region is renowned for producing some of France's most admired wines. Its prestigious wineries, including Chateau Palmer, Chateau Margaux, Chateau Latour, and others, are located along the Castle Road (D2), which crosses the appellations of Margaux, Saint Julien, Pauillac, and Saint Estephe. The region's unique terroir and expertise of winemakers contribute to the exceptional quality and flavors of Medoc wines.
  • What is a Margaux Wine?

Margaux wine refers to one of the most famous wines produced in the Bordeaux wine region called the Medoc. At its best, Margaux wine is the most seductive and perfumed of all Bordeaux wines. The grape varieties often found in Margaux wines are a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and to a lesser extent Cabernet Franc. Petit Verdot occasionally makes it into the blend but this being a very delicate grape to grow, the climate of the vintage has its importance.

Margaux wines have a complex bouquet with fruity aromas of raspberry, cherry, and red currant, but also floral, spicy, and roasted aromas. The wines on the palate are powerful and the ageing of the wines can last from 5 to 30 years.

We usually include a visit & wine tasting in a Chateau of the Margaux appellation on this Full Day Medoc Wine Tour.
