We only employ accredited and licensed tour guides that are also the drivers for all tours that need visits to be conducted by certified guides. Good examples are: the visit of museums, guided walking tours in cities, visit of historical monuments and so on. In some regions, where wine tours prevail (Bordeaux, Alsace) the tours are conducted by professional local guides, that are experts in Wines. Most of our Guides in Bordeaux hold the WSET level 2 in wines or are professional sommeliers.
  • How many wineries will be visited during the tour?

During our Bordeaux Medoc wine tour, you will visit multiple wineries. Typically, we include visits to three carefully selected wineries to ensure a comprehensive experience of the Medoc wine region.
  • How many Bordeaux wines will I taste during this Médoc Wine tour?

Unlike other wine tasting sessions that you might have followed around the world, the tastings in Bordeaux are not as generous in terms of pours . The amount of wine tasted is not what many would expect but here it is all about elegance, fruit, quality, aromas and flavors rather than quantity.

Each Chateau will have you taste their premium wine and what we call the 'second' wine of the estate. Sometimes, Chateau owners also add a tasting of some other wine if they happen to be the owners of another Chateau in Bordeaux. So basically, at each winery visited it will be 2 to maximum 4 wines tasted.

If you wish to taste more wine, lunch in Pauillac is a perfect location to sample other appellations - it is easy to order wines by the glass. To further enhance your wine experience, it is always possible to buy some bottles at the wineries visited. Bordeaux has also a very large number of wine bars where you can enjoy a further tasting experience. Ask your guide for great recommendations.
  • Can I purchase wine at the visited wineries?

Yes, you will have the opportunity to purchase wine at the wineries we visit. If you find wines that you particularly enjoy, you can buy bottles directly from the wineries to take home and savor the flavors of Bordeaux. Some wineries will also offer some shipping options for those who would like to send some wine home.
  • Can we choose which wineries we will visit on a shared Bordeaux Wine Tour?

No, unfortunately a scheduled tour is already pre-programmed and the wineries have been (carefully) selected. If you would like to visit some specific wineries while you are staying in Bordeaux then do not hesitate to book one of our Private Wine Tours from Bordeaux.
  • Are lunch options provided during the tour?

While lunch is not included in the tour, upon reaching the town of Pauillac, your guide will point out various lunch options. To ensure ample time for the winery visits, we recommend opting for a light lunch that won't be time-consuming.
  • Are the Winery Tours private?

During our scheduled/shared tours the visits at the wineries are not private and you may find yourself being grouped with others. Groups usually always remain in low numbers. If you are seeking a more exclusive Bordeaux Wine Tour then do not hesitate to book one of our private tours. We will organise a private visit just for you and your party.

Please note that on our shared Bordeaux Day Trips, Ophorus tours are always conducted in English during the tours or at the wineries. Unlike other providers we refuse to mix languages.
  • What is the significance of the Medoc wine region?

The Medoc wine region is renowned for producing some of France's most admired wines. Its prestigious wineries, including Chateau Palmer, Chateau Margaux, Chateau Latour, and others, are located along the Castle Road (D2), which crosses the appellations of Margaux, Saint Julien, Pauillac, and Saint Estephe. The region's unique terroir and expertise of winemakers contribute to the exceptional quality and flavors of Medoc wines.
  • What is a Margaux Wine?

Margaux wine refers to one of the most famous wines produced in the Bordeaux wine region called the Medoc. At its best, Margaux wine is the most seductive and perfumed of all Bordeaux wines. The grape varieties often found in Margaux wines are a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and to a lesser extent Cabernet Franc. Petit Verdot occasionally makes it into the blend but this being a very delicate grape to grow, the climate of the vintage has its importance.

Margaux wines have a complex bouquet with fruity aromas of raspberry, cherry, and red currant, but also floral, spicy, and roasted aromas. The wines on the palate are powerful and the ageing of the wines can last from 5 to 30 years.

We usually include a visit & wine tasting in a Chateau of the Margaux appellation on this Full Day Medoc Wine Tour.
  • What are the famous wineries along the Castle Road in Medoc?

The Castle Road or Route des Châteaux in Medoc is renowned for its prestigious wineries, including Chateau Palmer, Chateau Margaux, Chateau Latour, and many others. These esteemed wineries are known for their exceptional wines and historical significance in the Bordeaux region.
  • Can one visit Chateau Margaux, Chateau Latour, Chateau Mouton Rothschild or Chateau Lafite Rothschild?

Chateau Margaux is the lead winery located in the appellation that bears its name. This is certainly one of the most frequent questions that we have. NO, it is not possible to visit Chateau Margaux anymore

YES, it is possible to visit Chateau Mouton Rothschild in the Pauillac appellation. Pricing of the tour depends on option of visit chosen, prices range from 250€ to more than 350€ per person. If you would like us to book a visit for you and your party, don't hesitate to contact our team and we can organise a fully customizable private tour just for you that will include this winery.

No, it is note possible to visit Chateau Lafite Rothschild in the Pauillac appellation. The winery only allows for professional visits. If you have a wine importer in your country and that you purchase wines from Lafite, then don't hesitate to ask if they can make a request for a visit directly.

If you want to visit & wine taste you will have to prove that you are in the wine trade as this will be asked by the administration of the winery.
