The Royal Garden of medicinal plants was created in 1636 under the reign of Louis XIII. Throughout the centuries the collection grew and the museum began to expand outside the Capital. Today, the Museum maintains 13 sites that are spread all over France, including 3 in Paris: The Jardins des Plantes, the Musée de l'Homme and Zoological Park of Paris.
