Program & Itinerary
Maison de Champagne Moët & Chandon.
Founded in 1743 by Claude Möet, it became within 40 years the first international brand in the world. Its history is linked to some famous figures such as The Marquise de Pompadour and Napoleon 1st. This Champagne is also linked to many important historical events among which King Edwards VII’s coronation, Cannes Film Festival or the 120th anniversary of the Liberty Statue. It is probably nowadays the most famous Champagne brand around the world.
Why is Dom Pérignon so spécial?
Dom Pérignon is a special 'Cuvée' that is produced only on the best vintages with the grapes of this only vintage. The Cuvée is named after a Monk who was in charge of the wine cellars of the Hautvillers Abbey under the reign of Louis XIV and who is considered the inventor of Sparkling Champagne wine. The blending of 3 different grape varieties, the cork, the thickness of the bottles and the storing of the wines in the Crayères are all of his invention. The first ever vintage of Dom Pérignon dates back to 1921 but it was only sold starting in 1935. Since 1921, only 43 vintages have been produced and since 1959 the vintages are also produced in Rosé.
Visit of the historical Cellars of Moët & Chandon
On this particular tour, you will visit the most ancient cellars that are located in the Maison de Champagne Moët & Chandon. The underground cellars of Moët & Chandon are the largest of the region extending for more than 28 kilometers (17 miles) and form a labyrinth in which the wine will transform itself in ideal temperatures and humidity.
Taste Dom Pérignon 2010 & Dom Pérignon Plénitude II 2002
Begin your tasting session with a glass of Dom Pérignon 2010 vintage. From Decanter: "Soft gold, with a gentle green luminescence and a paler rim. A fine bead and immediately reassuring nose…. classic DP this, citric fruit, slate, sourdough, soft spice and the softly whispered intimations of tropical decadence. Pedigree writ large. The palate continues the theme, albeit with great subtlety. Vincent describes sapidity, itself buttressing the fruit which now recalls nectarines and pineapple, maybe a hint of crystallised grapefruit. The finish unfurls neatly, a gentle phenolic kick of salinity underwriting structure and potential alike."
Continue your tasting session with a glass of Dom Pérignon Plénitude II 2002 vintage. From Vincent Chaperon - Dom Pérignon Chef de Cave: “Plénitude 2 reveals Dom Pérignon Vintage 2002 in a new light, bringing the wine a radiant golden vibrancy. The natural opulence of the grapes harvested in 2002 is transformed by the additional maturation time, tending to the ethereal."
