Morlaix Town Visit

Centuries of a very rich past have left a strong architectural heritage in the historic part of the town. Probably occupied during Roman Times, Morlaix was captured by the English in 1187 and 1522. The town still retains 15th & 16 century houses and the Gothic Church of Saint Melaine dates back to the 15th century.

The most famous of these architectural highlights is without a doubt the very unique half timbered houses called "Pondalez" and that date back to the Renaissance times. There are around 152 of these houses located in small narrow streets, that have become pedestrian, and that reveal how wealthy the town used to be. Not to miss is the visit of the House of Duchess Anne as well as the House of Pondalez.

Dominating the town is a two-storried Viaduct built in the 19th century and that serves as a railway. The viaduct was partially destroyed during WWII but has since been reconstructed. The Bay of Morlaix is famous for the French as it is one of the main production areas of Oysters.

Follow a guided walking tour of Morlaix to visit all the major landmarks that this charming small town has to offer. Should I bring something specific for this Brest Shore Excursion?
