Program & Itinerary
Meet your English speaking guide
Come with us on a Normandy private tour and take a trip to one of France’s most iconic monuments! In the morning, we will come and pick you up at your accommodation in central Paris. First, meet your English speaking driver guide who will introduce the program and itinerary of the day.
Please note that this is an extended full day tour so please be ready for a long drive from Paris to Mont Saint Michel and back. You must wear comfortable shoes on this tour.
Walking tour in the village of Mont Saint Michel
The Mont St Michel, one of the most visited tourist sites in France, is located on a rocky island off the coast of Normandy, in the English Channel, and is one of the best Normandy private tours from Paris you can choose.
It is located about 1 kilometer from the shore and sits in a bay that sees some of the biggest tides in Europe. A few years ago, it got linked to the mainland by a bridge that gets flooded during high tides a few times a year.
The first church was built on the mount at the beginning of the eighth century at the request of Archangel Michael. A couple hundred years later, a small group of Benedictines settled there permanently and the church was enlarged.
The first monastery was carved in the rock during the middle ages in the 11th century and gradually got bigger and bigger over the following centuries. In the medieval times, it quickly became an important destination for pilgrims, just like Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
Completion of the abbey took hundreds of years
The construction of the abbey of Mont Saint Michel as we know it nowadays was finished in the 13th and 14th centuries, and the grand chancel was replaced in the 15th century. Those hundreds of years of architectural prowess have left us with a magnificent monument, now referred to as the “Wonder of the Western World”. It is also a UNESCO world heritage site.
As you reach Mont Saint Michel, access the village and its narrow streets via a shuttle and the bridge in accordance with local requirements. While on the road, make sure to take it all in and observe the beauty of the Normandy coastline. Enjoy a guided tour of the village and pass by the famous Mère Poulard restaurant.
Then follow your guide who will take you to the Gothic Abbey itself, at the very top of the mount. The entrance ticket is included. Enjoy a guided tour including commentaries about the history of its construction that will be explained in detail and while you are there, make sure to snap some pictures of the amazing views on the surrounding bay! You will then have some free time for personal discovery.
The Mont Saint Michel is also a lively small town, boasting dozens of shops, restaurants, museums
During your free time, explore the Island. There are a great number of lunch possibilities at the Mont Saint Michel. Your guide will suggest some great restaurants depending on your wishes and your budget. Of course, if you still have some questions about the history or the architecture of the Mont Saint Michel, your private guide will remain available for you.
This Mont Saint Michel private tour can take in small groups of 2 to 8 persons maximum. The tour takes place in an air conditioned sedan or minivan. A certified, English-speaking guide will be with you all day and ready to answer any questions you may have.

Our company uses only premium cars & minivans that are recent, comfortable and fully equipped including individual A/C, shaded windows and large leg space. -
Who conducts these Normandy private tours from Paris?
All our tours are conducted by English speaking guides that are also, in most cases, the driver. For a more personalized experience, we can also organize any private tour with both driver and guide. On this particular tour, your guide is an expert on medieval history & architecture. -
How difficult is it to reach Mont Saint Michel Abbey?
Mont Saint Michel as the name points out, is a mount and the Abbey is located at the top of the Mount! There are roughly 350 stairs that you will need to climb to reach the Abbey - around 200 stairs are in the village itself and the remaining 150 are within the Abbey. Therefore, if you have reduced mobility then the safer option is to stay in the village. This tour is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. -
Will we have some free time for personal discovery of Mont Saint Michel?
Yes, after the morning guided visit of the Abbey, the rest of your time at the Mont Saint Michel is for you to enjoy. You can either stay a bit more at the top of the Mount or decide to make your way back down slowly. On your way, don't hesitate to take some of the smaller side streets that are less crowded and that can lead to some stunning views over the Bay. -
Is lunch included on this private day trip from Paris?
No, we never include lunch on our private tours. However, if you would like to organize a lunch in a local restaurant then please let our team of travel experts know and they will do the rest.
