During this full day tour you will discover the Languedoc countryside while driving through gentle hills, vineyards and olive trees. Stop for a visit in 3 different wineries and one of the most beautiful medieval villages of the region: the famous village of Saint Guilhem-le-désert listed as Unesco World Heritage Site.

Meet your English speaking local guide

In the morning, meet your guide on the Esplanade of Europe in Montpellier. She / he will go over the itinerary and program with you. Board your premium A/C minivan to reach the foothills of the Larzac plateau where you will make a first stop in a famous winery of the area known for being the "first grand cru of Languedoc".

The Languedoc wine region

Enjoy a fun & informative Languedoc Wine Tour in France's largest wine region. For many years, the Languedoc wines were mostly synonymous to quantity rather than quality. With time, customers frowned upon low quality wines and this huge French wine region had to rethink its business model.

For 30 years now, the great majority of wine growers have made a considerable effort to restructure the vineyards in order to increase the quality and authenticity of the local wines and take into consideration the will of more demanding customers.

The Languedoc AOC regional appellation was created in 2007 and it helped redefine the quality of all the appellations within a regional framework. Among these AOC's the Crus du Languedoc include the greatest appellations of which the Terrasses du Larzad and Pic Saint Loup wine producing regions will be on your program today.

Terrasses du Larzac

Terrasses du Larzac wine producers strive to get the best out of this great terroir, choosing grapes from the five Languedoc varieties (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Carignan) so as to maximise the character of the many different types of soil (clay and limestone, ruffes, pebbles and shingle), each of which influences the grapes differently. Painstaking blending (minimum of 3 varieties) and at least a year of maturing, means the Appellation's wines are truly unique.

Pic Saint Loup

Located between the Mediterranean and the Cévennes mountain range, the vineyard begins on the outskirts of the city of Montpellier to the south, covers most of the area around Pic St Loup and reaches the Gard and Hérault districts to the North. The soils that can be found in this area are of different sorts including hard and soft limestone, conglomerate, dolomie to name just a few. These soils are perfect for the vines as they drain sufficiently when local showers take place while in the summer the deep soils retain and restitute water to the vines.

Commented visit & wine tasting

Discover a Cru of the Languedoc that belongs to a family with a rich winemaking heritage and that is known for the fine wines they produce. Enter behind the scenes of the estate and learn about the vinification process, visit the ageing cellar where all the oak barrels are located and end the visit with a commented wine tasting of the delicious nectars from this beautiful terroir.

You will then visit a second wine estate producing a beautiful range of "Terrasses du Larzac" wines. For 3 generations, the local winegrowers have driven the quality revolution in the Languedoc region, a must try for wine lovers! After the tasting session, continue your full day small group tour and on the way admire the view of the beautiful Hérault gorges from the Devil's Bridge.

Free time for lunch in a beautiful village

For lunch, you will discover the charming village of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, one of the unmissable sites of the region that is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage. Surrounded by limestone cliffs, the village and its marvelously preserved medieval architecture invites you to stroll in the narrow streets that have retained a certain charm.

The village is classified as 'one of the most beautiful villages of France' and was an important stop for pilgrims making their way to Santiago de Compostela. The highlight of the village is the Gellone Abbey that was built in the 11th century. The Abbey is a perfect example of Romanesque architecture with its full barrel vaulting, large pilasters and small openings.

Final Visit & Wine tasting

In the afternoon, end the day with a visit to a small family wine estate that produces a delicious range of organic wines. Here, you will be able to open up your taste buds as you sip on red or rosé wines.  After your final wine tasting session, it will be time to return to Montpellier and that will be the end of our services.
