What is a scheduled or shared tour?

A scheduled or shared tour is a programmed tour with fixed itinerary and pre programmed visits that cannot be modified. Individual travelers are grouped together and tour begins at a designated meeting point in the cities where they depart from. The pricing is per person.

How many persons are there per group/tour?

Tours are for 8 persons maximum in most cases. In Bordeaux, on certain shared wine tours, the numbers can reach 20 persons maximum.

Do you pick up at hotels or is there a pick up point

All our scheduled/shared tours have a precise departure location that is mentioned on your voucher in each city. If you wish to be picked up at your accommodation then you will need to book a private tour.

What happens if we do not find the meeting point?

You have to be at the meeting point at least 10 minutes prior to tour departure. If you are having difficulties finding the meeting point you must call us on our office number +33 556 152 609 so that we may help you find the exact area. Please note that tours leave on time and if you are not there at the designated area and indicated time the driver/guide will leave. Please refer to our terms and conditions for more information.

What type of vehicles are used for the tours, do they have A/C and other equipment?

Our company uses only Mercedes Tourer Viano 8 seater minivans that are recent, comfortable and fully equipped including individual A/C, shaded windows, large leg space and on board P/A system for commentaries by the guide.

Who conducts the tours?

We only employ accredited and licensed tour guides that are also the drivers for all tours that need visits to be conducted by certified guides. Good examples are: the visit of museums, guided walking tours in cities, visit of historical monuments and so on. In some regions, where wine tours prevail (Bordeaux, Alsace) the tours are conducted by professional wine guides that are also drivers.

During a wine tour, can we choose which wineries we would like to visit on a scheduled tour?

No, a scheduled tour is pre-programmed and the wineries have already been (carefully) selected.

Are the winery tours private?

During our scheduled/shared tours the visits at the wineries are not private and you may find yourself being grouped with others. However, Ophorus tours are always in English during the tours or at the wineries. Unlike other providers we refuse to mix languages.

How many wines are served in the Chateaus or wineries?

In Bordeaux, the chateau’s serve 1 to 3 wines during the tasting session. It is always the wine produced by the chateau usually the first and second wine of the estate. In Strasbourg, usually the wine growers serve 4 to 7 different wines depending on the group size and time.

Can I buy wine in the Chateaus?

Unlike in many other wine countries, it is very often not possible to buy wines in the Chateaus.

Can I drink wine on board the minivans?

By French law, it is strictly forbidden to drink alcoholic beverages on board the minivans. It is also strictly forbidden to smoke and we strongly advise clients not to eat or drink on board.

Are entrance fees included during scheduled tours?

Are meals included during the full day tours?

No, we never include any meals but your driver/guide will point out different options for you to choose from for lunch.

The visits are not private in that you may be grouped with other persons. It is possible to privatize the visits but this will induce an extra cost. A private visit of a chateau must be requested at time of booking or you will be booked on the grouped visit.

How much does a visit and wine tasting session cost?

The cost depends on the wineries. For grouped visits the prices range from 5€ to 20€ per person per chateau. For private visits the prices range from 10€ to 50€ per person per chateau.

Is it possible to visit the 1er Grand Cru Classé wineries in the Médoc wine region (Margaux, Latour, Mouton, Lafite, Haut Brion)?

For the moment (end of 2012) both Haut-Brion and Mouton are closed for renovations. Latour only provides tours to professionals of the wine industry.

For Lafite and Margaux it is possible to organise a visit but requests must be made months in advance as visits and numbers are limited.

Do you include lunch during private tours?

No, we never include meals during our private tours. Restaurant reservations can be arranged when upon request.

What is a shore excursion?

Shore excursions are day tours that are organized specifically for cruise ship passengers that are stopping over in Bordeaux, Bassens or Le Verdon ports of Call.

Where do the cruise ships dock?

There are 3 possibilities: In Bordeaux, close to the city center. In Bassens, on the opposite side of the city center of Bordeaux. In Le Verdon a port located at about a 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive from Bordeaux.

Where does the pickup take place?

We pick you up directly at your ship, as close as security will allow us to go. Return is also at ship unless you have specified a location during the booking procedure.

Is the tour private or scheduled?

All our shore excursions are private. It means that we will customize and book a tour for a lead traveler who can travel with family and/or friends or even ‘create’ his own group through cruise or travel forums.
