DESCRIPTION :
In the morning depart for the newly declared UNESCO town of Albi. Built of bricks, the historical city center is one of the most authentic in the region. The mighty cathedral, a unique example of southern Gothic architecture, built after the Albigeois crusade is a must see for its preserved Renaissance paintings and Last Judgment. The walking tour will also make you explore the old town’s winding medieval streets and private mansions. The town also houses the largest collection of paintings by Henri de Toulouse Lautrec. Enjoy a guided walking tour of the town including the historic center and the Cathedral. For those who wish, it is also possible to visit the Toulouse Lautrec museum.
In the afternoon, head for the small village of Conques that is home to one of the most famous Romanesque Abbeys of France. Its construction was begun on the foundations of a smaller earlier basilica and completed around the year 1120. It is built in Romanesque style, using a warm-colored local limestone in-filled with a local gray schist. Visit and guided tour of the Abbey and free time for personal discovery. Night in Conques.
The next day depart for Rocamadour a village that has attracted visitors for its setting in a gorge above a tributary of the River Dordogne, and especially for its historical monuments and its sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which for centuries has attracted pilgrims from every country, among them kings, bishops, and nobles. Here, follow your guide and visit the renowned Notre Dame Chapel, part of an extraordinary 13th-century chapel complex perched on a cliff and one of the most dramatic pilgrimage sites in Europe.
Then reach the village of saint Cirq Lapopie known to be the most beautiful of all the beautiful villages of France. Its position, originally selected for defense, perched on a steep cliff 100 m above the river Lot has helped make the town one of the most well preserved in the area, almost as if it was an open air museum. After it was "discovered" by the Post-Impressionist Henri Martin, it became popular with other artists and the home of the writer André Breton. Enjoy a walking tour in the village and return to Toulouse. End of our services.
