Experience the force of water and the large rivers that have cut the limestone plateau and provided for all the now famous caves that prehistoric man chose as his canvas. You can visit these caves, explore the historic aspects of important towns such as Bergerac, Sarlat, La Roque Gageac, Beynac, and Les Eyzies. See chateaux, and stay in charming and welcoming country inns & chateau. All that makes Dordogne famous, is available in this trip!

Arrival in Bergerac, a large town with good rail access and services. This is your getaway into the famous Black Perigord. The historic city is very picturesque and offers visits including the Maison des Vins - for local wines. Settle at your charming hotel.

Orientation & bike set-up at your hotel

Our local guide (French native & English speaking) will meet you at your hotel in the evening of your arrival day (or morning after according to the time we will plan with you). He will bring your bicycles, road-books, GPS and touristic information. An expert of the region, you can ask him all the questions you have about your trip. Then he will adjust your bike so you feel comfortable riding.

Night at your hotel.

A fairly challenging ride, it involves some hilly terrain up to the viewpoint of Les Cingles de Tremolat. The ride will take you along a scenic route to St Sauveur and through the surrounding forests.

Distance : 40 Km (25 mi).

Elevation : 440 m.

IMPORTANT NOTE : You won't have any possibilities to buy supplies on today's itinerary until you arrive at your hotel tonight. You must buy your picnic and snacks in Bergerac before you leave. Dinner (included) and night at your guest house

We will start the morning with an orienteering course to challenge your skills and then later you can take off on a bicycle ride to the capital of Pre-History. On the ride you'll first stop at Limeuil, rated one of the most beautiful village of France. Then down to Le Bugue and then on to Les Eyzies ! Take time to visit this very charming town and its sites/museums including Font de Gaume. Font de Gaume is a cave that houses a collection of prehistoric polychrome cave paintings. Prehistoric people living in the Dordogne Valley first settled in the mouth of Font de Gaume around 25,000 BC. The cave was forgotten until the nineteenth century when local people again began to visit the cave. Paintings were discovered and date from around 17000 BC, during the Magdalenien period. The cave's most famous painting, a frieze of five bison was discovered accidentally in 1966 while scientists were cleaning the cave.

Distance : 28 Km (17 mi).

Elevation : 546 m. Activity

It is a family of sports that requires navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain, and normally moving at speed.

Hotel : Night at Hotel les Glycines. Dinner included at your hotel.

Multi-sport day with biking and canoeing combined. In the morning, a ride through les Eyzies will lead you to Lascaux II cave, near Montignac. In Les Eyzies there is much to do and see, but we give you an option for a canoe trip this afternoon that should still leave time for Les Eyzies. The canoe trip is located in St Leon de Vezere near Montignac where you can embark on a 4 hour canoe trip back down to Les Eyzies. The canoe company will bring your bikes at the end of your canoe trip so you will have to ride less than 1 Km to go back to your hotel.

Distance : 17 Km (10 mi).

Elevation : 276 m.

Activity : Canoeing down the Vézère (18 Km) - The canoe base is located at St Leon sur Vézère, one of France's prettiest villages, halfway between Montignac-Lascaux and Les Eyzies, in the heart of the Valley of Mankind. From this ideally situated location, you will be able to discover the most beautiful stretches of the Vézère by canoe. Admire at your leisure the many prestigious sites along the banks: Château de Losse, Castel Merle, Le Conquil, La Roque Saint Christophe, La Madeleine.

Night at your hotel in Les Eyzies

A nice ride that takes you to an adventure park where you can do some rope courses in the tree tops and zip lines, a great time that you can do all at your own pace. Local French speaking employees of the park will help you with your harness and equipment. Afterward, continue to Sarlat. This town with its cobbled streets, old roofs, and warm stone walls give an exceptional heritage. Sarlat is a medieval town that developed around a large Benedictine abbey of Carolingian origin. The medieval Sarlat Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Sacerdos. Because modern history has largely passed it by, Sarlat has remained preserved and one of the towns most representative of 14th century France.

Distance : 41 Km (25 mi).

Elevation : 573 m.

Activity : Adventure park - You will put a harness and climb into the trees for some ladder courses, rope courses, and zip lining! These parks, known as 'accrobranche' in France are lots of fun and offer activities not at all common. You should be ok at heights knowing that with the harness you are perfectly safe.

Night at your Hotel in Sarlat including access to the Spa.

Big day, cycling and hiking ! A loop ride is planned today to La Roque Gageac, a village with traditional houses nestled against the cliff sides and a town recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France. You will then leave your bikes for an 12km hike (roundtrip) to Beynac and the perched village and chateau high on the cliffside. Return back to Sarlat via Roque Gageac after collecting your bikes again after the hike. Leave some time to do our Treasure Hunt in Sarlat this afternoon ! This little program will teach you about Sarlat history and take you into out of the spots.

Distance : 29 Km (18 mi) cycling and 12 Km (7 mi) hiking.

Elevation : 499 and 333 m.

Activity : Treasure hunt - Visit Sarlat in a unique way with our cultural treasure hunt in the historical center ! Our Treasure Hunt will introduce you to the most important sites and gives you a fun way to discover the city's history.
