The Art Nouveau movement appeared and spread across the globe from 1880. In Nancy, under the impulse of a group of artists stemming from a diverse range of artistic disciplines (sculptors, glass-workers, engravers, cabinetmakers, architects etc.), Art Nouveau witnessed exceptional and international growth. It would take the name ‘School of Nancy' through the emblematic figure of Emile Galle, famous industrialist, glass-worker, cabinetmaker and ceramist.

Depart from Strasbourg in the morning and head for Nancy. Here you will certainly be amazed by the Jewel of the architecture Art Nouveau in Nancy, the Villa Majorelle which is simply magnificent. It is an imposing structure, displaying the very best architectural features from the Ecole de Nancy. It was constructed by the architect Henri Sauvage for the master of the Ecole de Nancy, Louis Majorelle. Follow your guide as you head towards the Ecole de Nancy museum a turn-of-the-20th-century building is a museum displaying the works of Emile Gallé, the greatest artist of the Nancy style. See Gallé's celebrated "Dawn and Dusk" bed and the "Mushroom Lamp." Works by Eugène Vallin, another outstanding artist, are also on display.

On your way back to Nancy, why not make a short stop in the famous town of Baccarat from which the famed manufacturer of fine crystal glassware originates. If time permits, you will visit the Baccarat museum. Return to Strasbourg.
