Cognac named after the town of Cognac in France, is a world renowned variety of brandy. For a brandy to bear the name Cognac, its production methods must meet certain legal requirements in particular, it must be made from specified grapes, be twice distilled in copper pot stills and aged at least two years in French oak barrels.

Located north of Bordeaux, at approximately 1 and 1/2 hour drive, the wine region of Cognac is on your program today. This area is made up of 73,000 hectares (180,400 acres) of vineyards of which there are six different growing areas. Grande Champagne is known for making powerful cognacs. The second area is called Petite Champagne, and it is know to make elegant cognacs. Borderies is the third area, and makes well-rounded cognacs with violet aromas. The fourth area is called Fin Bois, and makes fine and elegant cognacs. The last two areas are named Bons Bois and Bois Ordinaires.

The reputation of the brandy is also closely associated to top brands of cognac, their headquarters (also known as their “House”), story of origin and more. A cognac house is often filled with rich history and your day today will allow you to learn all about a particular house’s legacy, methods, and varieties of product. Begin the day with the visit of one of the most famous "House" of Cognac. The guided tour will end with a commented tasting of different types of Cognac produced within these walls.

After some free time for lunch in the town of Cognac, visit of a second "House". Here, the guided tour will introduce you to the history of Cognac as well as the history of this famed Cognac "House". The visit is focused on the particularities of the Appellation and the slow process of elaboration of this Brandy. The visit is also punctuated by olfactory tastings that surprise, call to mind and create a perfect atmosphere to discover Cognac in a fun & informative way. The hour visit is concluded by a Cognac tasting. After the tour return to Bordeaux and drop off at your ship
