Description

Today begin with a panoramic tour of the newly UNESCO classified historical city of Bordeaux. The panoramic tour will allow you to see most of the famous monuments of the city. Bordeaux is classified "City of Art and History" and has been inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage List as "an outstanding urban and architectural ensemble". It is home to one of Europe's biggest 18th century architectural urban areas and stands out as one of the first French cities to have entered an era of urbanism and metropolitan big scale projects, with the team Gabriel father and son, architects for King Louis XV, under the supervision of two Governors), first Nicolas-François Dupré de Saint-Maur then the Marquis de Tourny.

Then depart for Saint Emilion. The history of the village goes back to medieval times and the whole jurisdiction is classified as UNESCO World Heritage for its natural landscape. The village is made up of fascinating Romanesque churches and ruins stretching all along steep and narrow streets. Concerning the wines of Saint Emilion, known as the right bank, the Romans were the ones who originally planted the vineyards as early as the 2nd century. Reminders of the Roman techniques of wine planting can be seen in some of the estates such as chateau Bellevue owned by world famous Angelus winery. The village was named after the monk Émilian (which then derived into Emilion), a traveling confessor, who settled in a hermitage carved into the rock in the 8th century. Enjoy a guided walking tour in the village. Options here include a wine tasting session in the village or the visit of the underground monuments, a unique aspect of the village that possesses an underground monolithic church.

Finally, end the day with a visit and wine tasting session in one of our selected classified growth of the Saint Emilion appellation. The wine region of Libournais encompasses much of what is referred to as the Right Bank. Named after its historical capital, the expression Right Bank typically refers to wines from the Pomerol and St-Emilion areas of the Libournais. There are several villages around the region that share the Saint-Émilion name, such as Montagne-Saint-Émilion and St-Georges-Saint-Émilion that are named the satellite appellations. The area is bordered to the west by Pomerol. Merlot is the dominant grape in this area, followed by Cabernet Franc and a very small quantity of Malbec that is tending to disappear. The climate and damper, cool soils of the area makes it difficult for Cabernet Sauvignon grapes to fully ripen and as such is less often used. Saint-Émilion wines were first classified in 1878 and have been continuously revised with the most recent revision occurring in 2006. Chateaux are divided into two First Growth classification-Premiers Grands Crus Classés A, which currently includes Château Ausone and Château Cheval Blanc, and Premiers Grands Crus Classés B which currently includes 13 chateaux such as Château Angélus and Château Figeac. Below the Premiers crus are the Grands Crus Classés which currently includes 55 chateaux. After the visit and tasting return to Bordeaux.
