The Medoc wine region of Bordeaux produces some of the most renowned red wines of France as well as unique wine tasting tour opportunities. On this exclusive tour, you are invited to share an unforgettable experience, discovering the wines of one of the most famous wineries, Cos d’Estournel. After getting to know the vineyard, enter the “Palace of the Maharajah“ of Saint-Estèphe, and discover all the mysteries behind the gravity flow wine making procedure. Your tasting will include: Les Pagodes de Cos, 3 vintages of Cos d’Estournel and Cos d’Estournel white.

In the morning we will come and pick you up at your hotel located in Bordeaux. Your English speaking driver / wine guide will then take you to the most famous winery located in the Saint Estephe appellation: Chateau Cos d'Estournel. One cannot speak about Cos without mentioning Louis Gaspard d’Estournel, known as The Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe. Born in 1762 during the reign of Louis XV and died in 1853 under Napoleon III, at the remarkable age of 91, Louis Gaspard d’Estournel had one sole passion: Cos. Having inherited a few vines near the village of Cos, he recognized, in 1811, the quality of their wine and decided to vinify them separately. Very rapidly, Cos d’Estournel’s wine exceeded the prices of the most prestigious wines and was exported as far as India. Louis became known as ‘the Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe’. To celebrate his distant conquests, he had exotic pagodas erected over his cellar, organized spectacular festivities at Cos and presented the great people of this world with some precious bottles of Cos “Returned from India”. In 1852, overwhelmed with debts he had accumulated in order to extend and beautify his estate, Louis was obliged to sell Cos to a London banker called MARTYNS.

Upon arrival, visit the stunning grounds and technical installations of this Second Growth classified in 1855. Your tour will commence with a drive through the vineyards belonging to Cos d'Estournel so that you may better understand the different types of soils and grape varieties used to make this formidable wine. Then enter this unique Chateau and walk through what is known as the Palace of the Maharajah of Saint Estephe - not only will you be introduced to the history of the Chateau and the legend of Louis Gaspard d’Estournel, it will also be time for you to discover the mysteries behind what is known as 'Gravity Flow' as you stroll through the impressive technical facilities of the winery that have taken more than 2 years to set up.

Finally, To carry on with the magic, you will be offered a comparative and commented tasting of some of the most prestigious wines of the estate including Les Pagodes de Cos 2011 (Second Label of the Chateau), Cos d'Estournel 2003, 2004 and 2008 vintages and Cos d'Estournel Blanc 2011 (White wine of the estate).

After the visit, you have the opportunity to choose between two different lunch options:

Follow your tour at Cos d'Estournel with the unique experience of having lunch at the Chateau. Here, you will be introduced to food and wine pairings that have been skilfully prepared by the chef, the meals being prepared only using local produce. Lunch will be accompanied by 2 vintages of Cos d’Estournel and 1 vintage of Cos d’Estournel Blanc.

Enjoy a unique lunch in a two-star restaurant that serves up an amazing dialogue between delicious cuisine and great wines. Here, wine and gastronomy are pivotal to the culture and the art of living in the Médoc. Every bottle and every recipe is a distillation of the geography and history, the cultivated fruit, climate, soil, tradition, and expertise, as well as friendship and joy of sharing.

Before returning to Bordeaux, you will follow the amazing 'Route des Chateaux' of the Médoc. Along this mythical Chateau Road your guide will certainly point out or stop in front of some of the most prestigious wineries of Bordeaux such as Mouton, Lafite, Latour, Pichon Baron or Margaux explaining and commenting about the how's and why's this area of Bordeaux has such a high number of wineries that produce some of the worlds most famous wines.
