Follow us on an exciting 8 day tour that will take you from the world famous vineyards of Bordeaux to one of the most unique regions of France: the Dordogne.

Start the tour based in the recently declared UNESCO city of Bordeaux where your local driver/guide will make you discover the best of the Bordeaux vineyards. Pick up will be in front of Bordeaux tourism office in central Bordeaux. From the famous Grand Cru Classé of the Médoc to the more intimate garage wines that produce only 3000 bottles a year in saint Emilion , our Bordeaux wine tours are designed to bring you where wine tasting has become an art. During the tour all will be able to comprehend the different techniques involved in wine making, understand the relationship between the wine grower and his/her vineyard and mostly get the feel and authenticity for a region where traditions and values are as deeply rooted as the vineyard itself. Certainly one of the main features of the tour will be the visit of some of the most famous Classified growth chateau's of the most famous appellations: the Médoc and St Emilion.

The tour will then move along towards the Dordogne region where you will be based in Sarlat. Here, your local driver/guide will make you discover the best the Dordogne region has to offer. Pickup will be at centrally located Place Pasteur bus stop and you will depart towards the main attractions this unique region offers every day. Small traditional Dordogne villages will be yours to discover as many are classified among the “most beautiful of France”. The region also boasts some of the most incredible medieval castles as this was the region where the French and English armies faced each other during the 100 year war. Certainly one of the main features of the tour will be the visit of Lascaux IV international center for Parietal Art. The Dordogne is famous in the world for having the largest number of prehistoric cave paintings and shelters in a sole location. Finally, the tour will also include Pech Merle cave, that still possesses authentic drawings and engravings and also the small village of Saint Cirq Lapopie, declared preferred village of the French in 2012.

PROGRAM:


Day 1 > MEDOC FULL DAY WINE TOUR - SHARED
Leave Bordeaux in the morning and follow the châteaux route where you will come across such pearls as Château Margaux, Château Palmer or Mouton Rothschild. Your first stop will be in one of our selected Classified growths where you will enjoy a visit of the installations and a wine tasting session. Then, enjoy some free time for lunch. In the afternoon, visit and wine taste in 2 other selected classified growths. Appellations visited include Margaux, Saint Julien, Pauillac and Saint Estephe. Night in Bordeaux.

Day 2 > POMEROL & SAINT EMILION WINE TOUR - SHARED
Today your tour will take you to the right bank of the River Garonne. Your first stop will be in one of our selected classified growth chateau's of the appellation: Pomerol or Saint Emilion. Here you will follow a guided visit of the installations and enjoy a wine tasting session. Then follow your guide on a walking tour of the village. After some free time for lunch and personal discovery, we will take you to another selected chateau for a visit and wine tasting session. Return to Bordeaux after the visit and night in Bordeaux

Day 3 > TRANSFER FROM BORDEAUX TO SARLAT - PRIVATE
This morning enjoy some free time in Bordeaux to admire some of the UNESCO monuments or why not shop in one of the longest shopping streets of Europe? After lunch, pick up at your hotel and departure transfer for the town of Sarlat la Canéda. Night in Sarlat.

Day 4 > SARLAT GUIDED TOUR / DOMME VILLAGE VISIT / DORDOGNE BOAT RIDE - SHARED
In the morning, follow a guided walking tour of historic Sarlat, a rich merchant town of the 18th century. Then reach the small village of Domme. Enjoy a walking tour and some free time for personal discovery. Then we drive to the beautiful village of La Roque Gageac where you will depart on a boat ride on the River Dordogne. Finally, we head to Beynac where you will admire a truly spectacular view and one of the most impressive medieval castles of the Dordogne. Walking tour in the village and free time for personal discovery.

Day 5 > LASCAUX IV VISIT & THE ART OF THE CAVES TOUR - SHARED
Some 15,000 years B.C. unknown painters created breath taking cave paintings of which the most extraordinary examples are found in the Dordogne area. During this day enjoy some time in Les Eyzies and follow your guide on a commented visit of the National Prehistory Museum. Continue to Rouffignac Cave that possesses original and authentic engravings dating back to the late Magdalenian. Finally, visit the new center for Parietal Art, Lascaux IV where a thrilling new experience awaits in what is considered to be the ideal 21st century museum dedicated to Paleolithic Art.

Day 6 > CASTLES OF THE DORDOGNE VALLEY TOUR - SHARED
In the morning, by Carsac-Aillac and Montfort depart along the Dordogne valley. First visit the mighty castle of Castelnaud a medieval fortress overlooking the Dordogne River, erected to face its rival, the Château de Beynac. Then visit of the Milandes castle. Built around 1489, it was the main house of the lords of Caumont until 1535. In 1940, the entertainer Josephine Baker rented the château and then bought it in 1947. Finally, end the day with the visit of the Gardens of Marqueyssac: listed as a National Historical Monument it offers more than 6 kilometers of shaded paths, edged with 150 000 hand-pruned hundred year old boxwoods. Return to Sarlat.

Day 7 > PECH MERLE CAVE / SAINT CIRQ LAPOPIE VILLAGE AND CAHORS VISIT TOUR - SHARED
The emblematic Quercy region is on your program for today. We first head towards the fascinating cave of Pech Merle that still bears some authentic cave drawings, paintings and etchings. After the visit of the cave, we depart for the wonderful village of St Cirq Lapopie, known to be the most beautiful of all the beautiful villages of France. Finally, stop in Cahors to visit the capital of the Quercy region. Its site is dramatic, being contained on three sides within a U-shaped bend in the River Lot known as a “cingle” (peninsula). During your visit you will certainly admire some of the most well preserved private mansions dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries as well as the unique Saint Etienne cathedral that is a unique example of a domed cathedral in southern France. Return to Sarlat.

Day 8 > ROCAMADOUR VISIT HALF DAY TOUR - SHARED
In the morning, fepart for the pilgrimage and fortress village of Rocamadour that has attracted visitors for its setting in a gorge above a tributary of the River Dordogne. The village is renowned for its historical monuments and its sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which for centuries has brought pilgrims from every country, among them kings, bishops, and nobles. Here, follow your guide and visit the renowned Notre Dame Chapel, part of an extraordinary 13th-century chapel complex perched on a cliff and one of the most dramatic pilgrimage sites in Europe. Enjoy some free time for personal discovery and return to Sarlat. Afternoon in Sarlat is free for you to enjoy. End of our services.
